PSP flies high on Japanese sales charts

The latest Japanese console hardware sales Feb 5 - 11 2007:

1. DS Lite - 201,177 (1,103,588) units

2. Wii - 78,550 (603,378) units

3 PSP - 32,175 (303,113) units

4 PS3 - 23,431 (178,734) units

5 PS2 - 16,033 (149,437) units

Great to see that while the PSP isn't the best selling system in Japan, it's certainly not selling as badly as some would like to believe. Nearly every console is having a problem combating the Wii and DS in Japan, so for PSP right behind them in sales is impressive indeed. I'm sure the release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd will help sell a few more of Sony's system.

1. What does the picture with this post have to do with the PSP? I don't see a PSP anywhere in the photo!

I'm sorry, it just had to be said. :D

2. Wow, the DS outselling the PSP by over 6 to 1?
Maybe if Sony would bring about the much-needed price drop (it has been two years now) they'd better compete with nintendo..

3. yah they wont ever be able to compete with DS if they don't lower the price. We know the PSP outclasses the DS in every way but that does not matter, it comes down to sales price. Sony keeps saying how they have a different target audience?? WTF? SONY it's not working, why don't you start targeting a different audience, you know the one that is much larger and will spend money on the PSP. This Audience is the 100.00 to 125.00 audience.

you mean annoying bratty kids who will scream at their parents to buy them nintendo games like pokemon or nintendogs? they would basically have to change their entire startegy fi theyd di that like not release any more firmwar eupdates (so little kids wouldnt brick their systems) and such.

5. But still , a 150 $ pricetag would be much more affordable for many , and that combined with a few month later redesign would seriously raise sellings :) But even if NIntendo consoles outsell them , Sony is second place everywhere with sellings , and MS is third . Thats enough for me lol
