PSP Fanboy review: Dungeon Siege Throne of Agony

PSP gamers have been waiting eons for a great system-exclusive RPG. The Untold Legends series did a fair job of satisfying my hack and slash needs, but didn't bring anything new, inventive, or exciting to the table. Enter Dungeon Siege. This beloved RPG series has been considered one of the PC's best. While the original games were developed by Gas Powered Games, this PSP-exclusive sequel is taken care of by newbie team SuperVillian Studios. And unfortunately, it appears this team simply wasn't ready to handle such a large game: although many elements of the game are excellent, numerous bugs, general sluggishness, and a repetitive formula, make it just another game to pass the time.

Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony giveaway #2

THE HORROR!!! THE HORROR!!! Jeff Morrice sent in the best, and most terrifying picture for the first part of our Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony contest. While there's a ton of hideous monsters in this PSP-exclusive hack and slash RPG, none are quite as horrific as this beast known as "Michael Jackson." Watch out--he's a tricky one. He'll try to give you some "Jesus juice."

Congrats to all the people that entered the contest. The winners will be contacted via e-mail. Now, continue reading to see how you can get another chance to win a copy of this game!

Viral blog takes girl to the broken lands

Viral ads are the hottest thing in advertising right now (see examples here and here). They try to spark your interest, so that you spread the site/idea/product around to a friend, like you would a disease (like how I caught this cold!). One reader, Mike Sutter, discovered a blog called "Honey for Tango" which focuses on a girl's encounter with the paranormal. This could haven been a convincing, and interesting viral blog, but unfortunately, it seems like the reveal happened too soon: her latest entry over-enthusiastically hypes the upcoming Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony.

The game itself looks interesting, but her obviously fictional blog does a poor job of getting me excited about the game. Also, I understand the game is releasing on Halloween, but in my opinion, the blog's focus on the supernatural doesn't seem to mesh well with the fantasy environment of the game.

IGN previews Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony
If you're a fan of the Untold Legends series or dungeon crawlers, you may be excited to hear the popular PC Dungeon Siege franchise is set to invade the PSP Oct. 2 in the form of Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony.

The game, which debuted at E3 2006, was only about 50-percent complete the last time IGN had go at it. It seems developer Super Villain Studios has been hard at work since, because the game is much closer completion and has a bevy of new features and enhancements. For instance, the PSP's Dungeon Siege cuts down the team members from six to two. Hopefully, the change will allow players to more easily keep track of the action and not make combat less interesting.

The game seems to play like your standard dungeon crawler, and players will be able to assign certain functions to the D-pad to speed up the action. During the demo, Throne of Agony didn't have any network functionality, but in the end, it will support two player wireless co-op.

With any dungeon crawler, you have to worry about repetitive gameplay, but hopefully Super Villain Studios will find a way to create an engaging dungeon crawler with a great story line. We'll see this fall.

Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony announced for PSP

2K Games (which is under Take-Two Interactive, those guys who made…what was that game again?) today said that they’ve acquired the rights to publish specific titles in the Dungeon Siege series. Among the two titles revealed, one game, Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony, is slated to see play on the PSP. Under development with SuperVillain Studios, the game will feature a non-linear single player experience as well as competitive and cooperative ad-hoc gaming.

What I’m wondering is, are they planning to release this game around the same time Uwe Boll’s anticipated abomination of a film hits theaters? If the game’s already titled, “Throne of Agony”, I’d say do it.
