American PSN Store update for October 16th

Check out that headline. Finally PSP owners have graduated from the "better than nothing" PC Store to the ultra-sexy direct PSP Store. Content updates don't seem to have substantially improved for either region (Europe saw no new PSP content yet again, this week), but Rome wasn't built in a day. American PSP owners will be able to grab two new UMD Legacy titles, a PS1 game and a demo. If you're interested in funny games that didn't sell well enough, Dead Head Fred is your best bet for this week. Here's the full list:

  • Dead Head Fred full PSP game ($14.99)
  • PQ2: Practical Intelligence Quotient full PSP game ($14.99)
  • Sno-Cross Championship Racing PS1 game ($5.99)
  • Lego Batman demo (free)

Watch as Grace Chen walks you through the new PSP Store

The new direct-connect PSP Store is on its way, but how does it look? Unsurprisingly it looks very similar to the PS3 Store. Coupled with the ability to sign on to the PlayStation Network from your PSP gives the two systems a much greater sense of integration. All we need now is a PSP friends list (and trophies wouldn't go amiss, either.)

If you want to see exactly what the Store looks like, check out the video above. You'll be able to get your hands on it when the firmware goes live in the near future. Hopefully a more accessible PSP Store means we'll be getting better content updates from now on.

American PC Store update for October 9th

Sony has once again seen fit to update the American PC Store, while the Euro store goes without, yet again. Not a bad update, either. Two full games and an echochrome expansion, plus a smattering of themes and vids. If you haven't grabbed Logan's Shadow yet, this is a perfect opportunity. We did name it PSP game of the year 2007, after all. Here's the full release list:
  • Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow full PSP game ($24.99)
  • Guilty Gear: Judgment full PSP game ($5.99)
  • echochrome level pack ($4.99)
  • Neverland Card Battles trailer (free)
  • NBA 09 PSP theme 2 (free)
  • Neverland Card Battles wallpaper (free)

TGS 08: Firmware 5.00 and PlayStation Store launch next week

The PLAYSTATION Network is coming to the PSP next week -- at least in Japan. Firmware 5.00 will be available on October 15th and will add the built-in PlayStation Store under the new XMB category.

Japan will then get a regular release of downloadable titles through the rest of the holiday season. Games include:
  • Yuusha no Kuze ni Namaikida or2 (10/16)
  • Bleach Soul Carnival (10/23)
  • Secret Agent Clank (11/20)
  • Patapon 2 (11/27)
  • LocoRoco 2 (12/4)
  • Resistance Retribution
Notice how every SCE first-party title is downloadable, including Resistance Retribution? It looks like Sony is finally ready to give up on UMD ... or at least give consumers a viable alternative.

American PC Store update for October 2nd

A decent update! Who'd've thunk it? Today Sony has unveiled a full set of releases for your downloading pleasure. You'll find full games, trailers and themes/wallpapers. All in one update. That's something that hasn't happened for a while. If you enjoyed last week's release of Untold Legends for download, then you'll be happy to hear the sequel is now available too. Oh, and if you're wondering what happened to the European PC Store update post, there wasn't any new content. Sorry. Here's the full release list:
  • Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code full game ($14.99)
  • Work Time Fun full game ($9.99)
  • Bluetooth headset trailer
  • PipeMania trailer
  • NBA 09 PSP theme
  • 5x Midnight Club LA Remix wallpapers
  • PipeMania wallpaper

PSP Fanboy hands-on: Prinny: Is It Okay If I am the Main Character?

Disgaea fans probably jumped in excitement upon hearing the news that Prinnies would be getting their own game for PSP. Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? is the aptly cute pseudo-2D side-scroller which is also being released in North America. While fans may be squealing in delight over that, here's one more tidbit that's going to make your day: you can play the game now off a demo on the Japanese PS Store. If you can't download it or just plain old stuck at work and can't get to it until you're at home, then we're providing our very own impressions for your convenience.

Getting right into it, the demo was a short, one-level adventure taking us through scenery we've seen in screenshots previously (namely the one posted above). As you can see, the environmental objects are 3D models and there will be times when certain actions will cause the camera to shift into this 3D perspective; however, the game is mostly in the 2D perspective, side-scrolling from left to right. Before you start the level you'll be given two optional difficulties: either a "one-hit you're dead" game or a "three-hit chance." The number of hits you can take will be displayed by icons placed in the upper left corner of the screen. If you die, you'll use up a life point which are all displayed in the bottom left.

Following in the European Store's footsteps, two full PSP games have been placed on the American PC Store today. Not only that, but there's also a demo and a theme to grab. • Pipe Mania demo (free)

Burnout Legends and Domination now available on the EU PSN Store

It's PSN update day, which (sometimes) means new downloadable content. Today Sony has plonked a couple of full PSP games onto the store for those of you who enjoy the Burnout series. If you're a PS3 owner you're probably already celebrating the Burnout Paradise trophy patch, or the opportunity to pick the game up off the PSN Store for the budget price of £25/€30. If not, then feel free to get your Burnout fix from one (of both) of these full PSP titles. Not a Burnout fan? Bad luck. Here's the full release list:
  • Burnout Legends (£14.99/€19.99)
  • Burnout Domination (£17.99/€24.99)

American PC Store releases for September 18th

Europe's PC Store update was sadly non-existant today, but America actually has the first decent update in a little while. Two full games are available from D3 Publisher, following their announcement of releasing a decent number of games onto the PSN Store over the next few months. Here's the full list:

Field Commander now available on the US PC Store

It's online shopping and it arrives almost immediately. Depending on your internet connection, obviously. Only one other thing was added to the US PC Store today; a developer walkthrough for the upcoming Lucasarts title Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. That's free, in case you're wondering.

D3 Publisher bringing Puzzle Quest, Dead Head Fred, more to PS Store

Finally! D3 Publisher, we applaud your decision to bring your PSP catalog to the PLAYSTATION Store. Best of all, you're making them available for cheap! Here are the releases:

September 18, 2008

October 16, 2008
To find out more about each of these titles, simply click on their names. You'll find all our news, previews and reviews of these games.

American PC Store update for September 4th

Wallpapers! You like them? Good, because that's all your getting in your PC Store update today. Not just one, not just two, not just (ok, that's enough - Ed). Nine entire wallpapers are now available, for your downloading pleasure. That's nine whole images, that Sony has uploaded to the store. How's that for a quality update?
  • Valhalla Knights 2 wallpaper (x4)
  • Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 wallpaper (x2)
  • PSP Wallpapers Series #2 (x3)

European PC Store releases for September 4th

Don't get too excited. There's nothing of any real interest in today's PC Store update. That is, unless you're into managing your PSP's content via a handy PC application. The Media Manager (version 2.5, no less) is now available for free on the European PC Store and lets you drag and drop content from your PC to your PSP, previewing as you go. Oh, there's also the next episode of Movement. Here's the info in handy list form:

  • Media Manager 2.5 (free)
  • Movement episode 5, part 2 -- "London" (free, includes 8 videos)

American PC Store update for August 28th

  • Cake Mania: Baker's Challenge theme
  • PSP Wallpapers Series 1 wallpaper (x3)
  • Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 wallpaper (x2)
