Deal of the Day: Gradius Collection $15 at Best Buy

Deal of the Day: Gradius Collection $15 at Best BuyIf you're like me and have recently been bitten by the old-school gaming bug on the PSP, you'll be happy to hear of a nice deal at Best Buy. You can currently snag Gradius Collection for only $15 by using Best Buy's Gamer Gift Card.

You see, the Gamer Gift Card gives you $5 off a $20 or higher game. All you do is buy the gift card, put a few bucks on it and use it to slash a quarter of the price off any $20 game. Pretty easy, huh?

And with the recent news of Konami releasing more classic shooters, picking Gradius up will just get you all the more ready.

Gradius Portable preview says "we likey!"

Memories of greasy tokens and sore index fingers could never dull our love for side-scrolling shooters. And of all the great ones out there, the mighty Gradius rules with an ion-coated fist. But will time dull our love for this classic beauty? Siliconera doesn't think it will.

The article makes some interesting points about the good (most of it) and the bad (Gradius III) of the Gradius Portable copy they got their hands on, most of which can be summed up by these points:
  • Gradius I and II have no chugging whatsoever.
  • Gradius Gaiden looks great and kicks major booty.
  • Gradius III has the best weapons system, but slowdown drags it down.
  • Buy it, buy it, buy it!
Best of all, the menu in the import version is done in English, so those of you who happen to import regularly (or make regular trips to certain import-carrying Fry's Electronics branches) can get their copy early and without fear of having to learn an entirely new language.

[Thanks, Siliconera]

Get plastered with Gradius wallpaper

Give in to your inner hype-driven commercialist today and download this neat pair of official Gradius Portable wallpapers. Why? Because if you're already sweating like Cheney at the hunting lodge after-party in anticipation of this side-scrolling shooter, pimping your background with this schwag isn't going to make you any less moist.

Gradius spreads its options onto the PSP

Spreads its options! Get it? Get it? Ehh, you're all no fun.

Anyway, it appears that Konami had more up their sleeves during their press event yesterday. They also announced the launch of Gradius Collection this Spring, news that practically made me jump up out of my seat, clap my hands and squeal like a girl. A big, overweight girl with facial stubble.

Chances are if you're still going through puberty you haven't had the chance to play some of the older games in the Gradius series. Fret not; the collection will come with all the games intact. Gradius I to IV are accounted for, as is the formerly Japan-only Gradius Gaiden. The game will also play in a variety of modes, one of which will take full advantage of the PSP's wider screen.

Looks like 2006 just might prove to be the PSP's banner year. About time, we say.
