Not to be confused with
SOCOM: Tactical Strike,
Dungeon & Dragons Tactics strives to bring a hardcore D&D experience to the handheld. While it may be too difficult for mere simpletons like me to understand, the response from the PSP community has been overwhelming for this game. Surprising -- was the franchise really that strong?

"was the franchise really that strong"
You must be a console-kiddie to even *ask* that question ... I mean, any person who could call them self a PC gamer wouldn't begin to ask.
Actually, Yoon-bashing aside ( ;) ), this is a *good thing* for the PSP! It shows how the PSP might not be growing the raw gaming market, they are taking non-console, non-handheld folks and getting them into it by producing stuff they'd like on their PC.

Well Yoon, I love this site but I must comment on that quote as well. "Was the franchise Really that Strong?" Dungeons and Dragons was the first RPG ever created. Without D & D, RPGs would cease to exist. So many games like Ultima, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Diablo, Knights of the Old Republic, Dungeon Seige, Gauntlet and more all have D & D to thank. In other words, D & D is the absolute textbook RPG. D & D is God in the world of RPGs. It is also used as source material to give game designers inspiration for new games. So to answer your question, D & D is beyond strong. It's a rock. It's the foundation that just about every RPG on the face of the planet is built on. Every RPG may not use the D20 system but D & D was the first to use race and class systems, numeric systems to determine hits and misses, damage, spells, random treasure and more. D & D also set the standard for tactical combat (somewhat inspired by chess) open story telling and phrase choices to questions between PCs and NPCs. Besides Magic the Gathering, Minature and Traditional Pen and Paper D & D products continue to be among Wizards of the Coast's best selling itmes. To see that D & D Tactics is making its way to the PSP is really exciting because D & D is really meant to be played in a turn based fashion. Its one of the reasons why games like Baldur's Gate I and II (PC) and Icewind Dale (PC) were also rabidly popular.

hmmm, I am not a D&D fan, and I'm glad to see there are people who are still into it
here's a better question, if you're a hardcore D&D fan without a PSP, will you consider getting a PSP for this?
as for me, no thanks, This seems to have a looong learning curve that I have no interesting to get into. I will just stick with Joan D'Arc and FF Tactics.
