While regular readers of PSP Fanboy are already in the know, there are still a ton of "rumors" spreading around the web, and Pocket Gamer has gone through all of them, commenting on the likelihood of each. In the "yes" category, we have upcoming features like Skype support and enhanced PS3 connectivity. Also in the "yes" category is an upcoming God of War for PSP.Other tidbits which are likely include nVidia's work on a PSP2 and a partnership with Yahoo. Less likely is a hard drive revised PSP. And in the "no" category? A PSP phone ... and the death of the PSP. Like the article states, "there is no reason to see the PSP as anything but Sony's successful entry into the handheld world. With some 25 million sold, Sony will definitely not throw the investment away without at least trying its luck in round two."

my bet is that the next PSP will be FLASH based not Hard Drive based, and games will be downloadable with UMDs being ditched. Think about, flash is getting cheaper and cheaper every day and would require little battery power and have nonexistent load times. Last year around this time i got a 2gb stick for $70, and now you can find a 4gb for the same price. By the time the next PSP comes out in 2-4 years, imagine how much FLASH memory you'll be able to get for just $60! With games being under 2gb, you could get 8 games in 16gb model. Plus you can always add more memory with an expansion slot. I would love if i could carry 8 games with me inside the system.

lol thats more than the gamecube and xbox sold in its entire lifespan, lol indeed a protable outselling two main consoles and the only console nto outselling was made by the same company (sony).

I like UMDs but I think the PSP2 should place the drive in a dock/charger seperate from the PSP where you upload games from it.

That's a really good idea. downloading 2 gigs would be a pain in the rear so that would be a good solution to that mess. Also, without the UMD drive, the system would be significantly thinner and battery life would be boosted a nice amount.

what I dont get is that this article:
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Various/feature.asp?c=1911
says:
"Sweating over a spreadsheet demonstrates what everyone suspected – PSP is dying for something new"
but than this one:
http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/02/06/the-trials-and-tribulations-of-tiki-games-part-2/
says:
"But for what I did right there were also things that were naïve. It's easy to convince yourself "I'll create an original IP for the PSP that focuses on an untapped market – the RTS. It's huge on the PC – let's try to bring them over by creating an RTS from the ground-up for the PSP. And we'll also be relatively low-cost in terms of overall budget. Surely publishers will appreciate that!"
In reality, while myself and my team had been in the industry for a long time, and shipped a number of titles, as a new start-up we're unproven from a publisher's viewpoint. And an original IP isn't nearly as powerful as having a license for some big property.
So to step into this with "I'll create a new IP in the RTS genre for the PSP. We'll then create a solid proof-of-concept playable demo. How can it go wrong?" Well, toward the end of 2006 I did a lot of traveling (and have done similar this year so far), and while Galaxy's End was well-received at most publishers, we're still a new company with no shipped titles, and the RTS genre doesn't equate to guaranteed success on a handheld.
We had some extremely positive meetings with publishers – they felt the game looked sharp, that we had conquered any control doubts (meaning the game does play well on a handheld), and they liked the overall game concept. Then the following week was something along the lines of "marketing finds it too risky." Lots of temporary elated moments followed by extended periods of frustration."
so the reason you dont see more original games on the psp is simple. Either people wont buy those games on the psp unlike nintendo platforms because they rather priate them since they dont take much up on a umd, or the handheld market is dominated by casual gamers and kids who either ratehr play brain training math games or nintendo sims (girls) or kid friendly games and prefer mario kart over realsitic racers for example. EIther way ur in the minority wanting those kinds of game son the psp. Anyway thsoe kinds of games and many unique games are available in japan yet the ds sitll sells more there. Really shows how improtant price is in hadnheld hardware.
anyway here is a unique game:
http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/02/08/spinout-racing-to-uk/
crush will also be unique, so is tokobots, and so is mercury, and exit, and loco roco.
again you and other gamers are the reason to blame for what you are complaining about not sony.
