Remote Play is one of the more exciting things about the PS3-PSP connectivity. It's a nifty feature that allows you to access your PS3's media via PSP. While cool in theory, in practice, there's too many restrictions. Firstly, the PS3 can't do anything else when in Remote Play mode. Secondly, you have to be in range of the PS3's wi-fi. Finally, you can only access media stored on hard drive (no games, or disc media!).
It appears that a future firmware upgrade in March will address some of these issues. The future PLAYSTATION 3 upgrade promises multi-tasking, which should help address the first concern. Secondly, you'll be able to access your PS3's media from any internet connection, a la LocationFree Player. Certainly, this is a strong step forward. With the PS3 gaining Tivo-like functionality later next year, the PSP may be the perfect media device for people on the go. Imagine: you could record Battlestar Galactica when you're away, only to watch it from your PSP whenever you're near a wi-fi spot. The future of PS3-PSP connectivity is certainly exciting.

I don't get how they can set the PS3 up with Tivo capabilities. It has no video input, its not possible.
The ONLY option would be some kind of USB input, and while definitely possible seems unlikely. Seems more likely they'd require some extra dongle/device that has video inputs that plugs into the USB port.
That point aside, this firmware update sounds freaking awesome! If they're able to actually add internet accesible Remote Play, downloading in the background and pauseable downloads, I'll be stoked as hell.

I am glad to see they are finally going to give it DVR ability like the Xbox 360. I guess they will just sell a TV Tuner that hooks up via USB?
Granted, I should wait until it's all official from Sony.

Tivo eh? Wouldn't the PS3 have to be on all the time then? And if you were away, it would be on. The PS3 heats up, so if your PS3 was on all the time and you were accessing it for awhile away, it could cause damage to the system.

i am still very skeptical that ps3 will have tivo functionality. i seriously doubt it will happen within the next year. Location Free is still the best solution. there was no mention if you could stream LIVE tv, which is something Location Free can do.
PS3 probably wont reach its promised features until next year, so until that time, i will NOT be buying one.

i think they mean "tivo qualities" IF you have a location fee base. the LCF base has wifi built in. if you can register the PS3 on the LCF base, you could save the show on the PS3 hard drive under video. that;s what i got out of it any. i already have location free..so i'm ready!!

... I have a PS3 and leave it on all the time. I have had no overheating issues. It has worked perfect since I purchased it. I also have a PS2. I leave it on all the time. I have several computers. Leave them on all the time. My electric bill sucks...

I have a PS3 and a PSP. Last night I updated the firmware on the PSP and checked out the remote play. It worked first try. The PS3 screen simply displays that it is in remote play mode: the PSP screen looks basically like the normal PS3 screen. You can access the web as though you were using the PS3. About the only other thing you can do now is access files on the HD.
