Remote Play really is quite an amazing feature, for those of you with PLAYSTATION 3s. PSP GadgetZ took this lovely direct-feed video of the PSP accessing the PS3's XMB, and it's amazing how quick and seamless the transition is. The video shows you the PS3's impressive Photo slideshow playback, and music visualizations (which easily trump the PSP's new visualizations). It also shows you how videos play with absolutely no lag or loading at all. Wow! I'm very impressed. The PSP really has become a "virtual PS3." Now, how do I get a PLAYSTATION 3 without selling one of my body parts?
[Update 1: Gizmodo unfortunately tells us that the PS3 is non-functional while in Remote Play mode. What? I hope Sony fixes this in a future firmware upgrade. You would think with the massive power of Cell, it can send a signal to the PSP AND do other things.]

So, is that video footage of what's happening on the PSP screen or the TV?

Yup, works great. Also, you can bump up your volume for playing music. Kinda like what you can do for videos on UMD. Can't wait to play R:FOM on my psp at Panera Bread by next year... well, here's hoping...

I thing the only games that will do something like that will be games not taxing on the ps3 itself, because essentially the ps3 is encoding video and sending to the psp in realtime. With a graphically intensive game already taxing the system's resources, their probably isnt enough to do what the game requires, AND encode it into video to send to the psp.

That's where something like the Cell comes into play. With all those SPEs able to multi-thread various tasks at once, as long as one SPE is open, you'd think that it would be relatively simple to use it to encode and stream the video to the PSP.
Nice eh?

Oh yeah, I forgot that one SPE is reserved for the OS (amirite?), which could mean that it can be dedicated to doing that task.

Question:
If you have a wireless lan in place do you need a 60gb Playstation 3 to use remote play wirelessly? Or can the 20gb PS3 use the wireless lan to broadcast the remote play?

theoretically it seems possible Aex, but I would not want to be you in trying to make that work. It hasnt been made clear whether or not you need a usb wifi-dongle of some sort (3rd party) to enable the 60gb version's wifi functionality, or if its simply impossible with s 20gb. Thats not clear yet. However, it seems like it should be something that works, but i dont know anyone with a 20gb to actually try that with.

Well, you could sell your legs to get a PS3. What did they ever do for you? I mean, other then DDR or Track & Field (Man how old is that game?), you don't really use legs for gaming. (Obviously I'm kidding, don't do that to yourself Andrew)
