RPG fans rejoice! You'll soon get your role playing fix for the PSP. Ubisoft has announced
Astonishia Story from the Korean developer Sonnori Corporation. Slated for an American release in March, the game features the task of recovering sacred relics by a royal knight and his army of wizards and mysterious allies. Dry dialogue not included (we hope).

Don't act like you didn't see this coming. Well, even if you didn't, it's in the works anyway. A new installment of the
Talkman translator is slated for a May release in Japan and is to include European languages this time around. Complete with English, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese, culturally aware gamers will be able to expand their linguistics by learning from the ever fluent blue bird Max.
Expect this title to make it over seas in the not-to-distant future.

OPM has a stacked feature on 1UP called "Essential 100: PS1, PS2, and PSP Games You Must Play Before You Die." It's ordered by date starting at 1995, so naturally you won't find the PSP titles until the end. However, two undeniably potent games they include for the Sony handheld are
Lumines and
GTA: Liberty City Stories.
What PSP titles would you have included in the list?

There's a new movie available for
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth where they show off some beautifully pre-rendered widescreen cutscenes. Don't worry, they mixed in some game footage as well. Hope you like the 2D feel, because the remake won't be in true 3D. Even so, the polish from this video shows it will still be a title worth checking out (when it makes its way to the US, that is).

Steve Makofsky has come up with a great How-to bit on setting up your own 20GB storage device for the PSP that also acts as a web server on a LAN. This allows users to access the server and stream content via RSS Channels. He brings the magic with an Asus WL-HDD drive enclosure that stands at about $88. The catch is that you must have firmware 2.6 to stream content from the access point.
Because it requires 2.6, only MP3/AAC files are supported until Sony provides streaming video support.

We gamers are no stranger to the viral marketing scene, especially all that tactical graffiti from Sony. Well, after they
admitted to hiring artists to paint up these "legally licensed walls," someone high on the NYC totem pole had something to say about it.
That someone is Peter Vallone Jr., a Queens Councilman who wants Sony to get rid of the urban nomad-targeted ads and make an oh-so generous donation to the city's anti-graffiti program. How generous, you ask? A donation in the ripe figure of $20,000.

Will wonders ever cease? I hope not, but before they do try checking out this video of a PSP running Mac OS. One of the first things you'll notice is his version 1.5 firmware. After that it's on to the memory stick where Basilisk II is kept. The user fires it up and within no time is greeted by the heartwarming message "Welcome to Macintosh."

GameSpot is reporting on some more juicy
Splinter Cell news. Apparently the rumors saying that
Splinter Cell Essentials would be a fresh prequel as opposed to a "tweaked port" were kind of on track. Ubisoft has confirmed that there will be a "prequel aspect" included in the title, although it won't be central to the game.
No one is quite sure what that aspect calls for, but the article is quick to note that it brings back the chance of
Essentials being just a spruced up PS2 installment. Keep your fingers crossed for something original.
