Higher capacity memory sticks on the way

Coming from The Memory Stick corner of the Sony booth during the International Consumer Electronics Show that's going on has come the introduction of higher capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo media. Dubbed "Gigabyte Life", the exhibit gives us a look at the 4GB and 8GB memory sticks that will be showing up later on this year.

[Thanks, Anuj]

the 8GB is a BIGGGG waste of money since the psp will only recognize 4GB at max

This is great news, unless u r into spending loads of cash its pointless but if sony is coming out with the new 8GB memory stick duo's they will end up changing the PSP's firmware to allow higher capacities because they arent going to block themselves out of the PSP market with the larger sticks. Neoflash's CF/Microdrive/SD/MMC converter plus the new 8GB sticks means later this year we might be able to use our 8GB Microdrives in our PSPs

FINALLY!!!! Of course I will have to pay like a 1000 Dlls for 8GB, but what the hell. I'll sell my soul for meaningless instant gratification... It is a great advance, now lets wait a couple of years for the next PSP with hard 30GB hard drive

I can tell now that I won't have the money for either one, but man I would love a 4gb card! I'm really hoping these will seriously drive down the price of 1gb and 2gb cards, although i kind of doubt it being too much of a price reduction.

I was going to buy a 2Go, know I want a 4Go :-)

the 2Go cost 199$

the 4Go will cost 399$

8Go will be 599$

that is to crazy!

I have two Sony digital cameras, a Clie and my psp and they all take DUO, so this is really cool.

you could soo easlily think that the PSP 2 could have a 8Go flash memory integreated into the PSP! OH BABY!

keep dreaming and I am waiting for more games!

I think it will be repurchasing a PSP this year,

I'm glad they are expanding their memory options.

Maybe this means 1gb and 2gb cards will drop in price a bit.

The MP3 functionality on the PSP was used a lot by me until I got my iPod video 60gb.

I think this is the year we finally see the strength of the PSP in the games that are released...

I wish more developers would use the downloadable content functionality though... I would feel more justified expanding my memory options in that case.
