We knew it was going to be big ... but now you can see the frantic crowds trying to grab a copy of the PSP action game, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd. The crowds were so big, you'd think that another console was launching. See more of the chaos and mayhem over at Famitsu.
Of course, will the game meet such incredible fanfare here in the States? Unlikely. But, Japan is where the PSP is struggling the greatest, in comparison to the DS. Certainly, this will give a much-needed boost to our platform over in the land of the rising sun. With US sales toe-to-toe with Nintendo's portable, and this highly successful launch, can anyone really say the PSP is dead?
Interested importers can check out Play Asia to join in the madness.

My god, I wonder why japan are the only ones that do this. Nobody ever lines up like that anywhere else unless its for a console.
This makes me want this game and I don't even know what the game is about.

Where have you been? I see line-ups and crowds at my local Best Buy and Circuit City all the time for stuff like Final Fantasy XII, Madden, and so on.
It will be interesting to see what this does for the PSP in general.

This will definitely boost sales. Since the bundle that includes the games is selling out, as well as the game itself. It will be nice to see what this results in as far as game sales. It may not topple the oddity that is the ds lite, but it will definitely top the software charts.

There are lines here for high profile games here. There was a big line at EB the night GTA San Andreas came out on PS2...

Kotaku says there were over 140 people lined up at the store when it opened at 9:25am, and by 11am the line was still so long that it went out the store. Looks like there were 3 products total... the Monster Hunter "gold" PSP, the Monster Hunter accessory pack (UMD case & headphones?), and the game itself, of course. The store also had a sign up front that stated they were ONLY selling Monster Hunter 2 that day. I'm definitely psyched about this game myself. We need more MMO's for the PSP.

Correction, famitsu.com's website stated these things.

Uhh, yeah.. anyway, the absence of online play was one of the main reasons that caused this game to get the poor/fair ratings that it received in the US. Because of this, i thought that developers would include infrastructure this time around.

to add to what stmadnes said, look at how poorly the 1st MH was rated.

Obviously, online play would have made a huge difference in popularity for the 1st MH. So why the hell would developers leave it out for a 2nd time???!!
