ESRB uncovers new retro games

Lately the ESRB has been a better source for game announcements than gaming magazines. This time the game rating reveals have a definite theme; retro gaming. The first up is one we've been aware of for a while, EA Replay 2. I bet there'll be a sports game or two in the collection (call it a hunch). The other listed collection was Taito Legends Power-Up. Taito has some quality games, but will there be enough recognizable hits to warrant its purchase? I suppose we'll have to wait until Bub and Bob's keeper releases it in stores.

I can't wait until all that's left to do are 3DO or Ocean game collections.

EA Replay 2 & more DBZ on the way?

The Magic Box is reporting that Gamestop listed EA Replay 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai Another Road coming out soon for PSP. The EA Replay 2 had a release date of February 19th for $29.99, but when I checked the Gamestop site the listing was no longer there. The release for Dragon Ball Z is listed as March 20th for $39.99 and that page is still up.

While Gamestop often lists incorrect release dates for games, they don't typically list games that don't end up eventually hitting store shelves. So there's a good chance PSP owners will get more time with EA and Goku soon. Until then, we'll just have to wait for someone to collect all the Dragon Balls and wish these games into existence.

IGN picks its top 10 PSP games for this holiday

IGN picks its top 10 PSP games for this holiday
Just in time for next week's infamous Black Thursday, IGN has released its 2006 Holiday Buyer's Guide and has also added their 10 choices for PSP games that should fill your stockings this Christmas. That's if you've been a good boy or girl, because if you've been bad, you get Family Guy.
  • Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
  • Daxter
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
  • Killzone: Liberation
  • LocoRoco
  • Medal of Honor Heroes
  • Mercury Meltdown
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
  • Tekken: Dark Resurrection
What, no Sega Genesis Collection or EA Replay? And while Daxter is a very good game, I don't think too many kids will go Nintendo 64 Kid crazy over getting a game released in March. Still, this is a pretty decent list, and I can't argue with it too much. If you're PSP shopping for someone, you might want to refer to this list.

Modojo rounds-up retro PSP games

Modojo rounds-up retro PSP gamesI can't remember a time in a system's life when it had more retro compilations than the PSP is seeing right now. And with games the likes of Sega Genesis Collection, Metal Slug Anthology and EA Replay releasing this week, it's a veritable wet dream for us old-school gamers out there.

And Modojo has gone through each title and decided which are worthy of your purchase and which are worthy of the trashcan.

We're Not Worthy!
It's Not Worthy!

I gotta say I don't agree with his choices for Sega Genesis Collection and EA Replay. In fact, I think Sega Genesis Collection may be the greatest compilation to ever be released. How would you fellas rate these games?

Taito gets in on the old-school resurgence

Taito gets in on the old-school resurgence
It seems like Sega Genesis Collection, EA Replay and Metal Slug Anthology have been getting all the attention lately. However, some of you may not know that Taito is throwing their hat in the ring with Taito Legends.

Legends
packs in 25 classic Taito games ranging from Space Invaders to The Legend of Kage. And although the game won't feature multi-player support, players can share up to 21 games wirelessly with other console owners via the PSP's game-sharing function. Also, Cameltry, Crazy Balloon, Balloon Bomb, and The Legend of Kage have each received graphical upgrades along with being adapted to the PSP's widescreen.

Gamespot, who just recently previewed the game, said "It's also a shame to see that little effort has been made to expand Taito Legends beyond including emulated versions of classic games. It's good to see that the PlayStation Portable's features have been used to allow wireless game sharing, but aside from the games themselves, there's little to keep you going for a long time."

It looks like the retro compilations are starting to pour in, but I think companies will have to do more than stuff a bunch of their old games onto a UMD and send it out the door for them to be successful.

Electronic Arts announces EA Replay feature details

New EA Replay feature details revealedEarlier today, we showed you a ridiculously long gameplay video for EA Replay's Syndicate title, and now Electronic Arts has released the game's features details.

EA Replay will feature:
While the collectable cards don't do a whole lot for me, I think the ad-hoc and mid-game save features are a very nice addition. However, would it be too much to ask for some infrastructure action?

Syndicate EA Replay video revealed

I never got the chance to play Peter Molyneux's Syndicate back in the early 90s, even though it was released on nearly every platform imaginable. However, thanks to EA Replay, I'll be able to finally do so anywhere I want, even if it's nearly 13 years after its release.

If you had any questions about Syndicate, this video will show you pretty much everything and then some. The game combines several different genres like real-time tactics, shooting and simulator into something that was pretty ahead of its time when it was released.

You'll be able to get your hands on Syndicate and 13 other classic EA titles when EA Replay ships Oct. 31.

Road Rash 1, 2, 3 EA Replay videos released

If you're like me and are a huge fan of compilations, there isn't a better time to be a PSP owner what with EA Replay, Sega Genesis Collection and Metal Slug Collection on the horizon. We've already seen several videos of games in Sega Genesis Collection, and now EA has released gameplay videos of Road Rash 1, 2 and 3.

I can't wait to get my hands on this game. Road Rash is one of my favorite old-school games. However, I must admit I thought Skitchin' was a far more interesting game, and I wish it were included in this compilation. Oh well, I guess I'll hold out hope for it in EA Replayed Again.

Check after the jump to see the other two videos.

EA confirms retro compilation game

EA confirms retro compilation gameA few weeks ago, Gamespot, using their highly accute senses of detectivism, spotted a new listing for EA Replay, a retro compilation that was made up of some of the best games EA released in the '90s, at Gamestop.com. Now, 1UP is reporting EA has finally confirmed the game's existance.

All 13 games from the previous report will be in the final version, and we can expect to get our grubby mitts on this bad boy come Nov. 7. Also, a PS2 version is in the works, as well.

While the list is pretty good, I don't think there's any need to have three Road Rashes, and I would have loved to see Mutant League Hockey make its way onto the game. God, I remember spending many a day tearing up the ice with Bones Jackson back in the day.
