1UP asked Shane Kim, Microsoft Corporate VP, about the possibility of Microsoft games appearing on handhelds. His answer? "We do it today. We don't publish those titles directly ourselves, we are creating intellectual property that have great appeal to customers of handheld devices. Whether you're talking about mobile or the DS -- you probably won't see it on the PSP, though."Why the Nintendo love? Well, Microsoft wants to target the kids that seem to shy away from Xbox's older demographic. Get those kids hooked on their properties on the DS, and then hope to reel them over to the 360: "Nintendo's fine. Particularly when you talk about some of our titles from Rare. A Kameo or a Viva Pinata on a DS makes a lot of sense in a lot of ways from a franchise perspective."
However, wouldn't one of Microsoft's more mature properties, like Halo, fare better on a handheld that not only has better tech, but has an audience that would be interested in such a product? Unless Microsoft has handheld ambitions of their own ...

Microsoft doesn't want to support the PSP because 1). Sony is competing directly with their 360, unlike Nintendo with their more kid-oriented DS and Wii products, and 2). We may still see a game handheld from MS at some point - and you can bet it would be a device that targeted older gamers like the PSP and carry franchises like Halo, etc.

I think that is a smart move on Microsoft part. This could help push sales of the 360 if you get a lot of Nintendo fans to like the 360 characters so then they will want a 360.
The other idea is Microsoft wants to enter the handheld market and some time in 2010 will enter it with a portable Xbox. So this way they get to see what people like about handhelds so when they bring there system to the market it will sell.
Either way smart move on Microsofts part.
I just would love to see Halo or Gears on the PSP. Now that would be Sweet. Even if Halo was a third person game that would still be cool.

The thing is, M$ is in despair, like the dude above me said, they are trying to bring Nintendo fanboys to their side like with the "Wii60 revolution", people can say all they want the Xbox360 is not doing good, M$ still loses a lot of money with it, even after Blue Dragon Xbox is still failing in Japan, worldwide sales are not that great either, the HD-DVD is already getting his ass kicked by the BD and M$ doesn't have a PS2 to back them up like Sony has, the first Xbox was a HUEG failure, and there is that Zune crap too...
sorry about my shitty english :P

Microsoft is the typical example of wolf in sheep's clothing. Nintendo better be careful.
Even if I had a DS, I would refuse to buy anything MS branded.

@5,
Kannon,
You are wrong. Sony developed the tech for Nintendo to compete with Sega, then shitcanned it and screwed Sony. So a Sony guy said,"let's make our own console," and they kicked Nintendo's ass with it.

Yeah M$ hates Sony more than Nintendo, why wouldn't they? Nintendo is for kiddies. PSP, PS3 and Xbox 360 are for grown-ups..

Well I hope Microsoft puts out a hand held, it will be more powerful than the Mighty PSP and the piece of shit DS. It will be more compatible with Windows and I bet will be easier for homebrew. I don't think 2010 would be a date either for it's release, I think it would have to be more powerful than the Xbox given the age of Xbox. I really love my PSP, I don't hate Nintendo I just don't think the DS piece of shit is in the same league as my PSP. Everyone is Knocking the 360 well screw the PS3 it is overpriced and selling like SHIT. The Wii is kewl but totally underpowered for nextgen gaming. The earlier post was correct, Sony did not steal ANYTHING from Nintendo, and they kicked Nintendos ass at there own game. I canm say after owning the PSP for a year I grow more and more tired of the way Sony does things. I am thinking about going the way of the GP2X it's open source and has the biggest homebrew community for a portable

the psp is not a console, it is a portable, so it doesnt compete with microsoft at all. And secondly Bill gates recently or another microsoft co said the wii is currently the 360's mainc ompetitor since the ps3 is doing so bad, so again your points ar emoot (and it is doing that bad).

also the wii isnt kid oriented nor is the ds. games like cooking mania and brian age are mroe egared toward the middle aged than kids, heck the ds has more people of middle aged and over than the psp does. Also it is one of the reaosns it is winning, so that argument is also false. I think there is just some deep rooted hatred between thes eocmpanies that we dont know about. Or some secret deal was amde between mcirosoft and nintendo.

do your homework, Kannon. Sony designed everything, then Nintendo stole the plans and went with Phillips.

Kannon, do we have to make a drawing for you?
Nintendo seeks Sony to help them with a CD add-on for the SNES, in order to COPY SEGA's Mega-CD add-on. Sony spends a lot of money in R&D designing the Playstation add-on and announces it at a trade show, only to find out that Ninty went on their back and decided to publicly assign Phillips to do the same thing. Eventually, the Mega-CD didn't do so well, so Nintendo cancelled the whole thing.
Sony decides to teach Nintendo a lesson, and this is how the PlayStation console was born.

The only real reasn why microsoft would have done this would be to establish a foothold from which they could eventually buy out or own Nintendo. Microsoft have done this before with companies (not just in gaming) and it wouldn't suprise me if it happened again.
Moreover, sony and microsoft are the two main backers of Blue Ray and HD_DVD respectively, and there's no way Microsoft would start handing over they're better franchises to they're biggest rival company.
It's a shame really, i'd love to play Halo or gears on my psp

blue ray and high definition dvd is something completly different form the gaming wars, nintendo is jsut as much of a threat if not more so judging by how well the wii is selling to microsoft in that department than sony is. And dont say its kid oriented casue manhunt 2 and another violent game is coming out for it on top of possibly resident evils, and they have cooking games and such which kids dont play.

7: There's a difference between saying 'sure, why not' and making the prediction in the first place. Doesn't change my noting why MS would follow this course.
So one prediction appears to not be coming true - O M G Z O R Z. Call out the goddamned national guard, because we were all REALLY betting the farm on ALL those predictions happening as described.
