Coded Arms Contagion didn't really impress former PSP Fanboy blogger Adam, and looking at new footage posted a few hours ago by Gamespot, it doesn't really seem like the game's shaping up too well. Although the original Coded Arms' randomly generated maps are no more, the controls still look awkward and sluggish, and the graphics and animations don't look too good, especially in light of Konami's other PSP gems. The controls are customizable, and the game will feature 20 hours of story-driven single player gameplay and 8-player online infrastructure multiplayer... but I can't really get too excited for this game. Why not check out some of the footage, and judge for yourself? (Hopefully, the game will shape up a lot more: according to IGN, the game's only 30% complete.)Watch - Interview with producer

All I here is people bitching about the controls of Coded Arms. It wasn't really that hard to learn the controls for me. I was also impressed the randomly generating maps and decent graphics. In what way were they bad?

Agreed - I really liked the original. It allowed about as much customization and flexibility as possible on the PSP for an FPS and after a while I got the hang of it and started actually enjoying the (brief but nice looking) game.
Although I trust Andrew's opinion more than Adam's, I think Joystiq's overall sentiment toward Konami (and maybe PSP games in general) may still be tainted by this little incident:

I love that most games that use random level generation the first time around drop it like a bad habit the second time around. Now if other companies would just learn from this. Random isn't better then static at all. It makes for generic areas that can be really confusing as far as their layout. It also makes for bloated save files as the random map data has to be saved as well. I just hope we stop seeing this trend in RPGs and FPS to stop using these random level generators. It takes a good chunk of the fun away.
