Lumines unlocks homebrew on firmware 3.50

Homebrew on PSP systems with firmware 3.50 was thought to be impossible ... until now. An exploit was found in the classic puzzle game, Lumines, that allows a Hello World application to run on the system. Users must download a special program, and install it on the Memory Stick. When launching Lumines, the exploit will be taken advantage of.

This is a huge win for the homebrew community. Most likely, downgraders will be created to take advantage of this exploit, which will allow all modern PSP owners to revert to a homebrew-capable firmware. Most likely, Sony has already heard about this exploit, and is working on a new firmware to ensure too many people won't be able to take advantage of this flaw.

3.03 downgrader released [Update 1]

Finally, you can downgrade your 3.03 PSP to homebrew-friendly 1.50. You will need the following:
You can find more info at Noobz. Remember: you are downgrading at your own risk, and no one can be held responsible if you brick your system. Take precaution. Once you downgrade, you can always upgrade to one of Dark_Alex's custom firmware options.

[Thanks, Ben!]

Homebrew FTW: firmware 3.01 decrypted

Just to help you keep track of it all:

Nov 20 - Firmware 3.00 available.
Nov 21 - Suspicious "security issue" found.
Nov 22 - Firmware 3.01 available.
Nov 22 - Firmware 3.00 and 3.01 decrypted.

Noobz, a popular PSP coder, proudly announced that the newly released 3.01 firmware has been decrypted. What does that mean? It means the homebrew community is working harder, and faster, than ever, to keep up with Sony. With the firmware decrypted, hopefully it won't be too long until something tangible appears for homebrew users.

So when do you think firmware 3.02 will come out? Tomorrow?

Kriek! 2.80 homebrew loader released [Update 1]

The newest version of noobz's popular eLoader, strangely called "Kriek," now supports 2.80 firmware, for those of you that upgraded, but now want to go back into the world of homebrew. This software allows you to run most new games and demos and homebrew at the same time. Another bonus for this release is the xLoader, which allows you to launch homebrew applications directly from the XMB interface. The Install-o-tron is also included so that "in principle, you may never need to manually install any homebrew ever again."

Very impressive, noobz! It looks like the homebrew community is making those all-important steps to being as easy and user-friendly as possible. To download, visit noobz's site now.

[Thanks, jamie!]

[Update 1: I guess I had too much to drink of that stuff over to the right. Yeah........ Anyways, everything should be corrected.]

Tetris: the first homebrew for 2.80 PSPs

Wow, it's finally happened. The libtiff exploit that allowed users to downgrade their PSPs has now been used to launch a game application. Although a bit primitive, this piece of homebrew from noobz can be installed and launched very easily. Simply download this zip file and extract it into your PSP/PHOTO folder. In the PSP, browse to PHOTO and you'll be able to execute the game. Easy as pie, huh? With the release of an SDK, we're undoubtedly going to see much more soon.

Hope you didn't upgrade to 2.81.

[Thanks Justin B!]
