The newest version of noobz's popular eLoader, strangely called "Kriek," now supports 2.80 firmware, for those of you that upgraded, but now want to go back into the world of homebrew. This software allows you to run most new games and demos and homebrew at the same time. Another bonus for this release is the xLoader, which allows you to launch homebrew applications directly from the XMB interface. The Install-o-tron is also included so that "in principle, you may never need to manually install any homebrew ever again."Very impressive, noobz! It looks like the homebrew community is making those all-important steps to being as easy and user-friendly as possible. To download, visit noobz's site now.
[Thanks, jamie!]
[Update 1: I guess I had too much to drink of that stuff over to the right. Yeah........ Anyways, everything should be corrected.]

I wish i would have kept 2.80 and never upgraded to 2.81 and 2.82. I will stick with 2.82 and wont ever upgrade untill they have a emulator fix for 2.82.
And i found out today that sony requires you to update the firmware in order to play the lastest games which if i ever was stuck without net access, i would be screw. most everyone eles know about this. Since there aren't much games i like for psp, im thinking of homebrew.

Most of the time the required firmware upgrade is included on the UMD of the disc (Actually, it's been on every UMD I own, but I say most because someone will inevitably prove me wrong). It will pop up as another option under the Game menu.
Still, I don't like upgrading either. The idea that I could do homebrew if I wanted to is nice. Of course, I there isn't any HB on my PSP now, so go figure. I will probably upgrade again soon, and complain (to myself) about it until a fix comes out in a few months. Just like I always do.

"now supports 2.80 firmware emulation. For those not in the know, it means a downgraded (or never updated) PSP can emulate the functionality of firmware 2.80, allowing you to run most new games and demos and homebrew at the same time."
hmm not This is not a Firmware emulator. eLoader is a homebrew loader for PSP Users Stuck in Firmware 2.80. (This uses the same flaw in libtiff we first seen the hello world on ( http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/08/28/say-hello-to-homebrew-on-2-80-psps/ )). Like all other eLoaders this will let PSP 2.80 users play a lot more/better (user-mode) homebrew.

Neither eLoader nor Devhook are emulators. Devhook being an emulator is a common fallacy. Devhook is actually a firmware launcher. The firmware isn't being emulated it is in fact being run with the PSPs flash calls being redirected to your memory stick.
