Every Saturday, PSP Fanboy will answer your burning questions. If you have a question for the team, send an e-mail to andrew @ www.pspfanboy.com with the subject "Ask PSP Fanboy."
Q: With news of the recent "Hello World" N00bz exploit for 2.81-3.03 PSPs, word is that an un-patched version of GTA: Liberty City Stories will be required for the future downgrader. How can I explicitly tell an un-patched GTA:LCS from a patched one?
A: Hope this image from DCEmu helps:

The unpatched version seems to feature different pictures. As a general rule of thumb, you'll have to look for the oldest copies you can find, so they'll most likely be used. When you pop in the disc, make sure the game offers a 2.0 firmware upgrade, not anything higher. Good luck.
See more questions after the break.

Q: Is there any way I can buy the soundtrack to Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner?
A: Clayton from Atlus responds, "Due to the fact that these 10 composers are split up among like 5 different
companies, there aren't any tracks that are downloadable. This is also the reason that it's unlikely that there will ever be a soundtrack."
Q: Do you think Sony or any official commercial company would ever make an emulator that allows PSP to run DS games?
A: No.
Q: Shouldn't PSP Fanboy have a forum?
A: As much as I'd like a forum, it would be too difficult to implement right now. Heck, we still have to fix our comments system!

Q: Are there actually any deals out there for UMD movies now that they're not such a hot format of choice anymore? I continue to see Best Buys stacked with them, all at retail (read: usually $20 and up) prices, and I thought stores would be putting them all on clearance by now.
A: The clearances happened a long time ago. Any carriers of UMDs probably continue to purchase them, and want to make profit on them. That being said, Deep Discount DVD, one of my favorite internet retailers, has incredible prices on UMDs, some of them as low as $9. They also have free shipping and a price match guarantee, so check it out.
Q: I know that movies are region coded but most games are not. What about specialty titles like Konami's
Silent Hill Experience and Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel?
A: They're not region-encoded either. Anything that launches from the GAME menu does not have a region.

Q: Andrew, do you play/own non-Sony systems? If so which ones, and why?
A: Yes, if you check out my profile, you'll see that I'm a pretty avid gamer across all platforms. You'll also see the games that I'm playing or reviewing right now. I own every system, minus an Xbox 360. Why no 360? It didn't seem worth it until very recently: Gears of War, as you may know, is my Game of the Year from last year. With Mass Effect on the horizon, I may pick up a 360 ... but I'm waiting for the HDMI-enabled version first. I also play with the DS and Wii, with the DS getting most of my non-PSP gaming. Games like Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright really tickle my fancy, and I will destroy anyone in Mario Kart DS (I have a nearly undefeated record on the Wi-Fi network!). I'll be picking up Hotel Dusk really soon as well.
You didn't ask, but I'll tell you my Sony support as well. Of course, I own a PS3 as well, and I'm really glad they fixed the PS2 backwards compatibility support, especially because I don't play PS3 games. My PS3 is used extensively as a Blu-Ray player right now, and I'm loving it: movies look really fantastic in 1080p.

This is like going to a church and listen to a drug dealer or an alcoholic . I was allways against people who ehere telling here that www.pspfanboy.com is ruled bi DS lovers , and I allway tried to tell them the oposite , but this ...its like Bill Gates saying that the PS3 is tha shit , and he only playes on it and not on the X360 . To bad , it seams thata there are really just to few real PSP fan , and yes I number miself among them whi ? Because I onli play on it , and almoust on nothing else , and befor you would jump at me and say you cheapass , dont , I could buy a PS3/X360/Wii , but I dont , whi because mi PSP takes away all mi gaming time . I hate to always have to read, nintendo, nintendo. Like if you go to a windows forums or site, you really don't read much about mac osx etc... I guess its different with games.....
anyway, I love my SNES!!!! it was my first console.
But PSP is the only handheld or gaming system I play besides my pc.

I too have both the PSP and the DS because I'm a GAMEr. I find that both systems compliment each other nicely. What the PSP does well (games like Syphon Filter, Daxter, Burnout), the DS does not, and vice-versa (Clubhouse Games, Elite Beat Agents). Dissing one system over the other is like saying "Frosted Flakes" pwns "Honeynut Cheerios"--it's ridiculous. If you're a true gamer, play the software and not the system.

Woot! I'm glad to see my question (the non-Sony systems one) got answered! Thanks!
As for myself, I own a PS2, Wii, PSP, and DS. I'm holding off on the 360 and the PS3 (moreso the latter than the former) because of money problems (e.g. I'm broke and my part-time job doesn't pay all that much).

You want it talk about consoles. I have Intellivision, NES, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Xbox and PSP. XBox and PSP gets most of my time with the exception of Twilight Princess on GC. I have not jumped into the next gen just yet but I am thinking of the 360 myself and maybe a Wii down the road...

Why is it that I have that unpatched GTA cover, but the UMD comes with a 2.60 update?

Just testing to see if the comments have been fixed yet. Oh, and if there's a PSP forum you'd like, there's already lots around, but I'll plug my own in the meantime. :) Has RSS feed capability too.
