We've already covered the basics of
what's getting added into the
Star Ocean remakes for the PSP, but we didn't have a heck of a lot to show off to back those claims. Luckily, we've
stumbled across a plethora of screenshots showing off exactly what we expected: crisper graphics for both titles, facial cut-ins for dialogue, and the knowledge that the second title is going to be fully voiced. Didn't they make a
Star Ocean EX anime? They may as well toss that cast back on board for the English version.
The only issue we can see from the screens is that the heroine of
Second Story, now
Second Departure, looks a lot younger than her initial drawings. Well ... maybe it's not really a problem, but it does make us realize that we have gotten older since we first played this game. Either way, they'll be a great addition to the PSP library and we can't wait to check them out at Tokyo Game Show!

There's no regional lockout on the PSP.
I dunno. I think the redesign of Rena is decent. She's supposed to be 17 after all. Frankly, too often characters look way older than they actually are.
Wasn't Squall supposed to be 17-19? He looked more like he was in his mid-late twenties.

Sorry for the double post, but I just looked at the screens for Second Evolution and um... that's the PSone game. The sprites and backgrounds are exactly the same (and still suffer from that weird blurry quality that comes with pre-rendered backgrounds). Contrasted with the First Departure screens (which look amazing) it really stands out.
Meh, I won't complain that much. I loved the Second Story and will buy a straight port pretty easily, especially with the addition of new cut scenes. Still, I wish they had put the same effort into the second one as the did the first.
Still, two portable Star Ocean games? Sign me up.
Oh, and while you're at it SquareEnix, put Blue Sphere on the PSP too.

I'm sure Squenix will localize both of these games. I think it'll even be more likely, if they decide to localize SO4 for ps3.

They really did a great job with the original's graphics, but you'd think they'd at least touch up the second one's just a tad. As for the drawings, Claude is passable, but Rena.... jesus. They turned her into a 11 year old. Really a very big letdown there as a star ocean fan. The way she was originaly drawn was 10x better.

Yeah, Blue Sphere would be nice. I always thought it was a shame to have such a good looking GBC RPG not get translated. I heard it wasn't ported because the English text would have taken too much memory on the GBC cart?

I second that. I want Persona as well! But no lame PS1 direct port.
And lame PS1 direct port is just what this game looks like. Besides the new portraits, looks exactly the same as 10 years ago. Talk about lazy.

Totally unrelated, but are PSPs region free for gaming? I don't care so much for UMD movies.
