Dream Games is a new weekly column where we explore a game we'd love to see on the PSP. Feel free to check in, and comment, every week.
Today's edition of Dream Games is more about an idea than a specific game in general. What I want to see is a new, original RPG for the PSP that isn't afraid to stray away from the norm: a game that's refreshingly innovative in a genre inundated with clones. While Monster Kingdom is a fun RPG, there's still more that can be done. Which brings us to ...
Skies of Arcadia
We need the equivalent of Skies of Arcadia from the Dreamcast era. This wasn't a port, a remake, or a sequel: it was a completely new world in a new franchise that explored a pretty fascinating theme: sky pirates. It featured top-notch audio, and a visually appealing world that strayed far from the futuristic environments standardized by Final Fantasy VII in the 32-bit era.
Why PSP?
Our system needs a genre-defining RPG. The original Skies of Arcadia made use of Dreamcast's quirkier accessories, like the VMU. An original PSP RPG would have to take advantage of the system's unique capabilities. Maybe it could use the GPS in a creative Kojima-inspired way? Or, let you import pictures from your Memory Stick (or PSP camera) to use for your in-game avatar? Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure would be a must as well.
Is it possible?
Clearly, companies are interested in making RPGs for our system: but will we ever get a game as beloved as Skies of Arcadia? Hopefully. Or, maybe Sega could give PSP owners a sequel? Pretty please!

I wonder, since SEGA loves the PSP (as it's been stated), could it love it as much as to release Shenmue 3 as a portable game?

sounds good. I'd like to some other ideas as well;
Crusader (pc) ported on the cheap would be fun,
or how about sony allowing students and new developers to offer games on download. This would allow a new dev. to get thier name out, and add free value to the unit.
I think a motion sensor "axis" could be really cool to. Imagine a unit that goes on like the gps that allows for "sixaxis" style control. I have a unique game idea for this, did anyone see the Lost Room on Scifi? There was a photo that allowed him to creat a window into a past room. As he moved it around he could see different parts of the room, it was really creepy! Making this a major part in a Silent Hill, or Res. Evil/Fatal Frame type game on PSP would be unique and fun. It might also be the popular app.
Another option is to port oddballs like Lifeline onto the system say around $20-25. when people see other people playing strange games like that, they create buzz.

Oh, I'd pay so much money to get this on my PSP. And when you think of it, technically, this would be easy to port. While the SH4 and MIPS processors are different, the Dreamcast and PSP share similar graphical capabilities, the PSP has one more button than the DC (so control translation is easy), the WiFi can allow the internet downloads like the Dreamcast did (The frying pan, the tuna, quirky weapons like that), even the UMD is perfectly suited for this, given that it's nearly the capacity of two GD-ROMs (SoA used two discs, remember?). Given that SEGA dragged SoA to the GameCube with some improvements, they're working on another incarnation of Crazy Taxi (hopefully one that won't suck), Phantasy Star now has its own Universe, Monkey Ball is still around, and there's new Sonic games, it's not outside the realm of possibility that they'd be willing to bring this for the PSP.

I am all for this game. Seeing as Sega has been making lots of PSP as of late. Just like Crazy Taxi was on the DC and just like Capcom's game PowerStone. Now we are seeing these games on the PSP. So I think there is a good chance we could see this game. I know I would buy this. I just hope there is little to no load times.
Plus if it is a remake of the DC version I hope the game would see the extras from the Gamecube version.
So Sega if you are listening please make this game I would love to buy this.

if they ported the first two I would be stoked. I also wonder if they love it enough to port jet force radio, Nights (or a sequel), make a third sonic adventure or a 2.5 sonic game for the psp, Shinning force 3/4, and port or make a sequel to panzer dragon saga?

Shenmue will NEVER come out on the PSP and I hope it never does. As much as I love the PSP, and as much as I love Shenmue, the system could never do justice to a port of Shenmue. Just because it is a Dreamcast game, it does not mean it can run on the PSP. Shenmue had graphical features that surpassed that of GTA (even today).
So please, guys, don't ever petition for one.

Hi everyone. I apologise for advertising but I think this could be in your interest. Basically there is a new site just set up for a petition to get Sega to make a new Skies of Arcadia game. If everyone signed it, it would be a great help. The site is www.soapetition.com just go to the forum to find the petition.
Have a nice day
