The folks at PSP Vault have combined the GPS accessory (now available in Japan) with the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. As explained earlier, you'll be able to recruit new soldiers through this weird and wacky feature that combines virtual espionage and real-world location hunting. Check after the cut to see more. The little circles seen on the GPS are soldiers you can recruit. According to the Vault's estimations, the large circle that's represented on the screen spans a distance of half a mile: perfect for a lengthy hike on foot. When you get within 100 feet, it seems like you'll get a new soldier to join you.
Whether or not you think this feature is lame or cool, there's no denying that this is truly an original and imaginative addition to the MGS universe.Metal Gear Solid's GPS demonstration

I think this will be worth it if you get some really interesting people to recruit. If most if not all of the recruits on GPS are silly or average, it will be a total waste of time. I haven't tried to recruit via Wi-Fi yet, so we'll have to see how that works as well. As far as the GPS goes, I think paying ~$70 isn't bad for having this function on my PSP. Considering the average cost of a decent GPS is ~$200. Making games compatible with this periferal is just icing on the cake...
