Andrew has had his game he's lushed over, and I think it's been clear that Bounty Hounds has been my baby. I've been waiting impatiently for reviews to start trickling in, and it seems IGN has finally granted my wish.
However, according to reviewer Juan Castro, it seems that I may have gotten my hopes a bit too high as Bounty Hounds, which was released Sept. 12, appears to suffer from some gameplay issues that stop the game from reaching its full potential.
Positives
- Looks and performs better than just about any PSP title;
- High attention to detail, especially in enemy units;
- More than 500 weapons available;
- Most menus and interfaces are easy to navigate; and
- The game's wireless multi-player deathmatch helps keep the game from getting old.
- Players don't have full control of the camera. It can only be centered behind your character, which usually ends in your character being shot at by off-screen enemies;
- No auto lock-on combined with the frustrating camera makes for unnecessarily hard boss fights; and
- Repetitive combat.

Gamespot gave it a 6.9, but with both of these sites, it's sometimes a mixed bag depending on which editor is doing the review. Let's just say there's some I take to heart, and others I don't.
That said, while the three reviews on Metacritic thus far don't bode for a AA+ game, I've really found a lot of enjoyment in A or even B rated games... Infected, Untold Legends, Twisted Metal, Mercury, Darkstalkers, Katamari, Namco Museum, etc. This will warrant a precious spot on my Gamefly queue, if not an impulse purchase.
Meanwhile, I've got my sights on another 70's average new title: Bomberman!

Can you say METROID rip off? Seriously oh well, maybe namco will stop making games on a handheld that is incapable of offering good controls and well..makes them on the DS.
Check out the wii news, if you havent. It will amaze you.
WII WILL LET A REVOLUTION!!!!

The Poet, you give some of us a reason to bash a perfectly good game (MPH).
As for Bounty Hounds - well, I am going for it, regardless. One shouldn't put heavy stock into reviews, because there's always the "it" factor that'll appeal to a fan of the theme. And when you're enjoying something, you will easily ignore the compromised aspects. However, with Bounty Hounds, the IGN review was very explicit in its judgement; how the game looks amazing, yet clunky with controls? It's not one of those reviews where you're given the impression of a generally bland title.
Anyway, I'm still getting the game. I'm willing to accept the bad controls as a sacrifice for a decent setting and story.

I totally agree with you, man. Very rarely do I ever let a review decide whether I'll buy a game or not. Instead, I may wait for it to drop in price, but if it's something I'm excited about, I'll get it regardless.

I agree with pixelator - There have been many games that received a lower than expected score that I still enjoyed playing.
As an example; SplinterCell on PSP. Yes, the controls were very complicated to pickup and learn. The dark levels are near impossible to play in daylight. The game crashed on me at least twice and corrupted 1 save file... yet, I still find enjoyment in the game. Reviewers gave the game a low score with good reason, but for those Die-Hard Sam Fisher fans - its the best Portable Splinter Cell available.
That being said, a score of 7.0 does not keep me from buying a game.
As I always say; Don't knock it, until you've tried it.
