Deal of the Day: Me and My Katamari $20 at EB/Gamestop

Deal of the Day: Me and My Katamari $20 at EB/GamestopIf you never got a chance to play Me and My Katamari this is a perfect opportunity to do so since EB Games/Gamestop just lowered the price to $20 in store.

The game currently has a 75 metacritic score and IGN said "Its small stage design, propensity for backtracking, and obvious slowdown and camera issues certainly keep it from being one of the premier PSP titles -- but that doesn't mean it isn't fun."

However, you can't really go wrong with spending only $20 on a solid PSP title. If you have no idea what the game is about check this out and it will explain everything to you.

Namco's looking for a few good Katamari cosplayers

Did you fly that geek flag of yours proudly the last time Halloween was on by dressing up as the Prince of All Cosmos? Was it even Halloween? Wait, don’t answer that. Namco has no problem befriending all you diehard Katamari Damacy followers, however. From today until June 30, Katamari cosplayers can submit their "favorite Katamari-inspired apparel" for a chance to have it posted within the official site’s new cosplay gallery. Think of it, all those hours you spent crafting that elongated green headdress and matching skirt could be on display for posterity on the Me & My Katamari website. And your parents told you crafting costumes of video game characters would never get you anywhere!

Prizes like Prince puppets, t-shirts, and autographed copies of the soundtrack will be waiting for those who can come up with the best Katamari-related costumes or apparel (as judged by the brains at Namco Bandai America). Get rolling!

Me and My Katamari gone gold? Off with his head!

Jeez, these headlines are just getting more and more creative.

Yes, we know the game has already been on the shelves at your local Fry’s for quite some time now. But since we can’t speak Japanese, picking up the import version of Me & My Katamari is about as smart as buying a UMD movie at full price. It’s wonderful news then that Namco’s announced that the game has gone gold, which means it’ll soon be sent off to Sony’s super-secret proprietary disc-printing factories, where no doubt scores of Oompa Loompas and tiny elves will tirelessly mass produce copies of the title.

As always, pre-ordering the game will get your goodies like this PSP case shaped like the Prince’s cylindrical head, which is pretty much the exact same giveaway they had when the game went on sale in Japan. Incentive!

Me & My Katamari sorta kinda stateside

After this little bit of news, Fry's just may become my new favorite hangout, despite the 25 minute drive. One intrepid blogger from the wily depths of the Internet (which is our way of saying we have no clue where this guy is) took a snapshot of an import copy of Me & My Katamari over the weekend, affirming our belief that some prayers--no matter how petty, lame, or selfish--do get answered. It's true that it's an import copy, which means that most of us who can't speak Japanese are fresh out of luck. But those bi or tri-linguists who are itching to flex their character-reading skills may very well want to take a trip for some hot junk ball action at their local Fry's Electronics branch.

Me and My Katamari previewed

Those awaiting the arrival of that junk-collecting, hammer-headed Prince and his kooky dad on the PSP can rest assured that the game will make a safe transition from the PS2, controls and all. GameSpot and 1UP sat down (or stood up; how you play your PSP is your business, after all) with a demo of Me and My Katamari and both report that most everything fans liked from the home console version will carry over to the portable. Graphics, according to GS, are more or less the same, and while 1UP laments the lack of an online infrastructure mode, four-player ad-hoc mode will undoubtedly satiate gamers on the lookout for who amongst their friends can make the biggest ball of crap this side of the universe.

To make up for the lack of a second analog thumbstick, the game adopts the same control scheme as Coded Arms, which makes use of the D-pad and face buttons, thankfully minus all the awkward, negative bits that made Coded Arms such a joy to play.

Me & My Katamari image blowout!

Namco's recent announcement of Me & My Katamari's US and Europe launch in 2006 undoubtedly has everyone in a frenzy about finally getting their hands on this portable gem. Or maybe just a little bit giddy. Whatever.

Anyway, what better thing is there to do while you wipe the froth from your mouth than to take a gander at these screenshots? Just don't forget to wash your hands after.
