When we look at Mat Brady's convergence PSP mock-up, we can't help but laugh and get confused at the same time. This Frankensteinien combination of an iPhone, Windows Mobile device and PSP should be able to play games, browse the internet, play music, and cook you food. This certainly would save a lot of space in our already-bursting pockets. Check out a high-res image here.

I'd rather the screen flip down over the keyboard, DS style, to protect the screen. Thats pretty much the only thing I like about the DS over the PSP.
I really dont like that slide-up "Chocolat" style.. Too Matrixy..

This mock-up actually has some pretty cool points:
- Two Analog-sticks
- Start- and Select-buttons are placed quite reasonable, imho
- Built-in camera
- Complete keyboard -- I could finally write e-mails with my PSP! (I can, now, but it's a horrible pain)
- All the mini-tools like Notes, etc. are what I am missing for my PSP
- The speakers are better placed than on the original PSP, imho.
Here are the downsides:
- Camera is *tiny*
- As koehler said, making the screen "fold" to protect the screen would make much more sense
- I'd love to see Two L+R-Buttons like on the PS2.
- It doesn't fix the stupid on/off-switch which I HATE!
And here some strange things:
- What are the 1-2-3 and a-b-c- buttons?
- Why does it run iPhone-like firmware, but has a Windows-key? :-)
- Using Firefox over Safari portable is quite a memory-drawback.
- Some buttons (screen control, volume, home, equalizer-presets) are missing.
All in all it's pretty nifty, imho.

Could be wrong, but I presumed that there was a bigger camera on the on the back. Would make sense since you need to see the screen to know what you're taking a picture of.
Some Sony-Ericsson phones (including the k800i which I own) have two cameras, a main one on the back and a smaller one on the front just above the screen which you can use for video chat.

I think that's the "wish" part of the iWish, as in something you want, but you freely admit you could never get. Why not run the Windows stuff you want? It's your own fantasy after all :-)
The "start" and "select" buttons are arguably not needed at all, including all of the ABC and 123 buttons. Why not just build them into the touch screen like the current iPhone? The rest of the buttons you mention fit in the same category.
The qwerty keys are arguably not needed for the same reason. A case can be made (and Apple has certainly made it loud an clear) that the touch screen should be enough for the keyboard as well. Reasonable people have disagreed.
Basic design? I agree; fold the screen. The clamshell design of the DS really is kind of kick ass. (hint, hint Sony)
Finally, how do you propose putting in a second set of L/R buttons? If you could do it, you're the man. It would be awesome. If that was in place, along with the second analog, you could dupe every control on a PS2 dual shock. It's well worth an attempt, but this is the extra control I have the hardest time envisioning a solution for.

The only way I can see to add L2/R2 without adding to the thickness of the device would be to play L2 and R2 on the back of the PSP, perhaps at an incline so you wouldn't be pressing the buttons with the sides of your middle fingers.
I think it's a pretty lousy idea but it really seems to be the only conceivable way of doing it.

Why have the keyboard there when you could just put the keyboard on the touch screen?
Unless it's intented to be PDA as well as everything else.

That's horrible, while I like the slideout keyboard, the dedicated volume/display/sound buttons are gone (put them back!) the numbered buttons at the top? Put them back on the bottom, they were there for a reason (so you could reach them). All those extra icons make the design look cluttered. And who the eff put start/select in the corners? That's just retarded.

Non-sense. The PSP is perfect in its current form. We just need more good games. That's just it.

Nice idea, but this thing would be a bitch to type on. How would you hold & type on it?? Cant imagine it would be anything ideal/comfortable.

There is more info on the iwish at this site.
Plus I got to say if this became the PSP2 then this would be great for games plus my every day life.
Plus to think what kind of games could be made with this are almost endless.

Seeing as this thing would cost quite a stack of money, it wouldn't even have a market.

I would prefer the screen to flip over the keyboard. That way we wouldn't need to worry about scratching it, or having to buy a case. I don't like the ipod touch/iphone's interface on it, as well the button beside the camera, since they're to far to reach. A touchscreen xmb would be awesome. A stylus would be appreciated as well.
Overall, it looks pretty cool.

I hate this mockup, it's one of the worst I have seen. If you want a windows mobile or iPhone just go buy one. The PSP is a multimedia/gaming device. My Windows-based mobile is for all the other s***.

I'm the crazy fool that created that image. It's too bad Joystiq didn't put a link to my site on here as well as that would explain away most of the comments that have followed.
The thing is that the iWish was mostly an idea to spur on other ideas, but you wouldn't get that if you only saw the image.
I recommend reading the blog that comes with this iWish pic (and a second pic at the end). http://planetmat.blogspot.com/2008/05/introducing-iwish.html
Thanks for all your comments so far.
