Wow, what's this? A PSP commercial that's pretty straightforward and doesn't leave us scratching our heads or just completely embarrassed? Apparently so, as the first Japanese PSP-2000 TV commercial is making its rounds.
The commercial zeros in on the new PSP's TV-out capabilities, which seems to astonish the elderly man. Sony also cleverly uses the setting to not only promote the PSP-2000 and Monster Hunter Freedom 2, it also features an entire fleet of Bravia TVs. We gotta hand it to ya, Sony. Nice one.

Finally the ads are getting better. Might want to add a comment at the end of the commercial to say that it now has TV out to make it even more obvious. Do what Apple does with their products, show off its features in a catchy way.

YEAH!
Weres the usa commmercial.
They need to have a nintendo ds and then like break the ds into 5 different pieces throw it in the garbage. Then have a slim psp with a crown on it hooked up to a tv. Then at the end of the commercial put the only reason the ds is outselling the psp is because its fun to break into 5 pieces.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and thats the boottom line

They still fail. That just shows that your psp can be a sucky PS2 with one less analog stick and two missing shoulder buttons.
What they need to do is show a kid playing it coming home from school on the bus, stopping at a store, buying a cheap UMD, going home, and plugging it in so that everyone can watch it.
This one sucked still.

I like it--they lead you to believe he's playing a PS3 (with his movement, etc.). It's like the dude just walked into a store and hooked up to a Bravia for kicks.
I also give them full marks for not pretending the psp tv-out fills the whole screen... though it freaking should!!

I should have asked this a while back on the Q&A, but I didn't think of it 'til now.
Let's say you have a 1080p set and you play a DVD. The DVD is 720x480, but he TV scales it to fit the screen.
So why is this not possible with the PSP? Can it not scale because the PSP is actually sending out black pixels to fill the space? If it's not sending extra pixels, is there any other technical (note I didn't say "marketing") reason your HDTV couldn't scale the image?
BTW, Jonathan, I didn't exactly see them highlighting the fact that it has two shoulder buttons and one analog stick. It just looked like the kid was having fun. As much as I'd like to see an extra analog stick, it should be noted that the competition sells quite well without even one of 'em. The PSP is the only handheld in history to ever be roundly criticized for offering MORE than the competition. I'm getting a little tired of it.

@Trooper:
If you didn't buy the component cables and also if your television cannot accept component cables then you cannot play PSP games on a television. The composite cables only let you watch UMD movies.
