Many Sony fanboys were shocked, even angry, at Square-Enix's decision to make the next Dragon Quest game a DS-exclusive. Nintendo has been getting a lot more love from the RPG goliath, with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings among the numerous games headed to Nintendo's dual-screened portable. Does this mean Sony fans will be snubbed by Square-Enix?
Nope. It appears that the PSP will be getting Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou, an updated version of the original PlayStation classic. New anime FMVs and job classes are some of the anticipated upgrades for the PSP remake. A second title, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, was also announced, but the platform has not yet been revealed. With Tactics and Crisis Core making its way to our handheld, it's clear that Square-Enix plans on supporting PSP fully.

[Update 1: Jeux-France provides scans and more info: Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, a GBA sequel to the original FFT.]

All I can say is ABOUT TIME! Now, will they give us some sort of tool to transfer our original PSX save to this version of FFT? Because I don't feel like making Ramza master the Ninja class all over again ;)
Seriously, though: it's about time SE figured out that we wanted ports of only two games: FFT and FFVII (Well, maybe Chrono Cross too...). But it's too true that the PSP needs some more original games. At least Sony is giving developers the alure of the UMD, with 1.8 GB of storage at their disposal, whereas the the DS's carts have a maximum capacity of 1 Gbit (am I right?). When we start talking about RPGs and FMVs, like Tactics (about 600 MB in the PSX incarnation) or FFVII (close to 1.8 GB in the PSX incarnation), that UMD looks pretty appealing. Not to mention, with its greater-than-PSX quality graphics (I'd say it's actually somewhere in the neighborhood of Dreamcast Quality), it'd be a lot easier to convert some of those PSX classics since graphics don't have to be scaled back.
I think Dragon Quest fans may be a little disappointed if the next DQ looks anything like FFIV did for the DS. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good game, but they made such horrible use of the dual-screen. Seriously, Sqeenix: use one screen for stats and menus, use the other for the shinies (world animation, graphics for battle scenes). FFIV was just too old school for the DS: it was next to impossible to work in the stylus (unless you count clicking on menu items), and it wasn't condusive to the second screen. At least gameplay made up for it.
Anyway, Nintendo can choke on FFTA2, FFTA was junk anyway. The battles were too easy, the Law system was annoying beyond comprehension, the plot was kind of weak/simplistic. All it had in common with it's big brother was Ivalace, Chocobos, Moogles (not even in the same sense!) and turn-based tactical "action." I'll take the classic any day, with battles so hard it feels like they jammed a spear down through your digestive tract and out the other end.

FFT is one of only two PSone games that I still sit down and play (the other being Castlevania: SotN). I am quite pleased to hear they are porting it over.
Do we need more original games (especially from SE)? Yes, we do. However, if they are going to port games, I won't complain if they plan to port the top rated ones.

All I want to see now from Square Enix is a new Crono game for the PSP.
But I wish his game was not a remake but a new game but at least the PSP is getting FFT.

It's great that we are getting a remake of the original FF Tactics, but I was hoping FFTA2 would make it into the PSP as well. :/ Well, I do have a GBA, so it's not that big of a deal, but having a PSP version would be just amazing.
I don't think SE can take a chance of making new games for the PSP (or announcing them) before they release Crisis Core. Think of that title as a test. If it's a success, I'm pretty sure we'll get a lot more love from SE.
Anyway, why do we get all these nice little trollies? Don't they have DSs to play with, or do they need us PSPFanboys to be entertained? Daaaaamn.

Amazing! FFT is one my all time favorite games. FFT:A on the GBA sucked, but maybe they'll make up for it with the PSP sequel. I'm just glad I kept my PSP and have a 4GB stick now. :)

Wait, wait, wait.
So this is a PSP SEQUEL to a GBA GAME, which is itself a spinoff of a PS1 CONSOLE GAME. Dammit Square, just make something new!

CJC, let's clear something up. This is going to be a remake of FF:Tactics for PSX, and not a sequel to the GBA game FF:Tactics Advance.
I dunno about you guys but I rather enjoyed both FF:T and FF:TA, sure the GBA game was poor in comparison to the original but you have to admit it was nice being able to take a Tactics game around. Now this and the upcoming Jeanne d'Arc game. I hope they make a Front Mission game for the PSP.

About the DS is more loved by Square Enix, you are completely wrong! Did you try Final Fantasy III on DS? It's the biggest piece of garbage. Horrible graphics + no action = disaster. You would never guess that FF3 is no bigger than 100mb... PSP games are usually 1gb+ PS games are 200-500mb. It's because DS game is such a easy cheap ripoff, square enix can't resist to scam the crap outta those DS fans!
