So, it's that time of the week again. Y'know, the time where we remind you that the PSP is really successful in Japan. We never really thought that we'd have to do this for so long. We're happy for you PSP, but we'd love to see a bit more drama on the hardware charts. C'mon, let the Wii get into the fight! Stop making the PS3 cry!PSP 64,449
Wii 49,047
DS Lite 37,404
PS3 9,071
PS2 7,189
Xbox 360 1,947

The PSP is not only successful in Japan. In fact, more PSPs have been sold in Europe (12mil as of May) and NA (10mil as of Jan) than in Japan (8.5mil as for Apr). I find it funny though that the PSP is outselling the PS3 6:1 yet all the developers and Sony are throwing money at the wrong system. They need to re-evaluate their thinking and give the PSP the support it deserves.

The hackers have made the business of making games for the PSP less than appeal. Just about everyone I know that has a PSP has hacked it and are running copied games.

That should have been "appealing".

The thing is, though, while the PS3 hardware sales aren't so great, the software sales are pretty decent, at least in the West (not so much in Japan).
Conversely, while hardware sales of the PSP are pretty good in the west overall, software sales are abysmal. Not even God of War and Crisis Sold that well (not enough to justify their long developments)
Plus, there's what, 70 million people in Japan? Compare that to 350 million or so in NA and 500 million in Europe...

This is the problem with the PSP. The Dev are not making games citing poor software sales yet there are not enough games out there to generate strong sales.

Huh?!?
What does the amount of games have to do with software sales? Answer: nothing. The PSP has a LOT of good to great games now, this is not 2005.
What DOES have to do with software sales is people pirating games instead of buying them.

I think reson8er is right, People do not not buy psp's because games are coming out at that very moment, but because games are already there. Some people said things like there has never been a better time to have a psp when GOW and FF CC came out, but i'd say now is a better time to have a psp, as these games are more cheaper now....blah blah blah, blah blah blah (You might as well go to the next comment, i'm not gonna stop any time soon)

I just purchased my first PSP a week ago due to exactly what you are talking about. The PSP has a really great library and you can get most of the games for $30 bucks or less. The idea of exciting new games like Patapon at a $20 price is a big appeal to future development as well.

I agree. I bought my PSP and all my games are older than the PSP itself (late 2007). I don't agree on God Of War. Way too repetitive, same could be said for Crisis Core.
For me it was buying these brilliant games for next to nothing. £5 for MHF? Awesome! £10 for VC:S? Sweet! The upcoming games don't interest me at all.

if you have the june 2008 issue of game informer, there is an article that might have the solution to piracy, in other words, download the game and you CANNOT get downloadable content, BUY THE GAME and you can have access to dlc. the article is called a better way to play, pages 26-27 game informer june 2008.

In many ways the PSP strangely has a lot more features than the PS3. More visualizers, rss, radio, skype, so on and so forth. I just recently got a PS3 and was a bit shocked by that.
