Looks like Sony's ready to counterattack against that libtiff exploit that's been so helpful to homebrewers over the past few days. The European PSP site has revealed text suggesting the impending release of firmware version 2.81. Most likely, it won't include any new functionality. However, I hope Sony will prepare a downloadable demo to coax us into upgrading, just because free game demos are always yummy.
[Thanks, steve!]

Sony should just give up and let homebrew do as they please. It's a never ending battle.

I just hope that Sony actually addresses & fixes the music playback problem that plagues some of us with 2.80.

It doesn't happen to every 2.80 PSP, but there's enough of us out there that it's clear it's the FW that caused it.

I don't know if it was just me but after upgrading to 2.8 the games took a hell of a lot longer to load up.
If it fixes that and also adds something useful I will upgrade. Otherwise I will stay and hope for a downgrader.

Upon updating via the Network Update option on the PSP's menu there appear to be NO other features included in this update other than the resolved security issues.

Well the Japanese 2.81 says they have removed the
limit of 4GB+ memory sticks! So that is a far better reason to update than just other game demo!

I'd love it if they were to allow you use mpeg files, you almost lose the function of being able to watch movies from the memory stick when you force people to covert files.. what a hassle.
