Now that Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins has come and gone, it seems like I need a new lethally difficult 2D game to pine over. As previously revealed, the Metal Slug Collection will feature six Metal Slug games. IGN UK recently got some hands-on time with the game, and squealed in delight to see "blood, blood and more blood," as in the original Japanese release. (I wonder what the ESRB will have to say about that...) Although the game looks stunning on the PSP screen, the writer had a few concerns with the game. Firstly, it will be very short, considering how each game in the series clocks in at about an hour long. Although SNK is adding extras, they're limited to just concept art. Also, the load times seem unnecessarily long as of now (considering how this game isn't too technically advanced, the load times should be non-existant). Finally, the menu designs seem just slapped on together sloppily. Hopefully, SNK will fix these issues before the game releases in September.

I was torn between this and the Wii version..But then the Wii version lost its supposed "Wi-Fi capabilities" and SNKP announced they were going with a shitty control scheme. Definitely going for this one now. It was the reason I bought a PSP. :)

I'm going to stick with the wii version and hope that it is compatible with the classic controller. I'm turned off by what I just read and I really hate that they're stretching the sprites. It is a trent with psp ports that I absolutely detest. Rather than take some time to optimize a game for widescreen, they just stretch the diplay. Darkstalkers, Valkerie Profile, Street Fighter Alpha, Power Stone and others, all stretched. I respect the folks at Sammy for optimizing their port of Guilty Gear. This is just unacceptable.

Valykrie Profile had a lot of re-rendered backgrounds, to fit the widescreen format. Some of it didn't cut the mustard I guess. So they didn't bail out and take shortcuts.
I agree with the general comment though. Stretching aspect ratios is pretty awful to do. We're getting the ports, but I don't see why we should pay full price for Metal Slugs, the last 3 (4,5,6) are awful, courteousy of SNKP. When you clump them together, the sequels look even more recycled than ever. Sprites and animation have stopped evolving ever since 3. Which is the last Metal Slug that the original SNK created.

6 isn't included, but I still think 1, 2, X, and 3 are worth 40 dollars.
