Make your PSP glow in the dark

Seeing this sort of mod makes you just want to stop and stare and say some pre-school gibberish like "ooh, glowing thing." While you comfortably ogle idly with desire, we'll continue reporting on this gorgeous add-on. When you're ready to wipe the drool over your chin, read on.

This product you see here is called the XCM Magic Night Glow faceplate. It latches onto the front side of slim model PSPs only and comes in pearl, yellow, blue (pictured), green, pink, and red. Each faceplate glows a different color than its original scheme. For example: the blue one pictured above will glow greenish (also pictured). So far there's no price set yet, but you can find a place to pre-order it over at XCM's website.

Now, just think of all the practical uses your PSP will now have; it's not only a game machine and a music player, but also a nightlight and a rave party glow toy! Sweet.

Faceplates available for hardcore PSP-2000 owners

Already tired of the look of your PSP-2000? Then, get a new faceplate for it! CoolMods is offering faceplates in a variety of colors, such as this rather swag looking gold color. At £9.99, they're a bit pricey, but those that desperately need to have a different looking system will want to pick one up.

Design the next Camy faceplate for glory (but not money)

Think you can make a better faceplate than the people of Camy? They want you to prove yourself, as they're holding a contest to find the next Camy design. The winner will get four faceplates featuring their design (because y'know, we like to buy more than one?). But, you won't get any royalties. Hrm.

If you're still willing to partake in this contest, and don't mind feeling a bit snubbed for your efforts, head over to Acid Mods for the full details.

CAMY introduces "dual injection" faceplates

Remember how sweet-looking those Signature series PSPs were? Well, CAMY is offering you a cheaper alternative: faceplates that use their "dual injection" technique. Don't start rolling up your sleeves, though. According to their website, "CAMY PRO GEAR™ faceplates are actually created using two individual layers, the colour layer and the clear outer layer, just like the official SONY PSP™ stock faceplate."

Theoretically, this is supposed to make installation easier ... which is much appreciated, considering how much trouble I had installing the invisibleSHIELD many months ago.

Isn't black so boring?

For about $30, you can rip apart your PSP and install some new official Sony PSP faceplates. It may not be cheap, but it's far more affordable than outright buying a new import PSP. New colors, such as Silver and Metallic Blue (it's so shiny!) are available for your consumption. Considering how SCEA seems to think that we're satisfied with having simply one color (black) in the market, this might be the best option for you to add a little color to your PSP gaming.

Divineo 'evolves' PSP face plates

Divineo evolves PSP face plates
If Divineo's chrome PSP faceplate wasn't your bag, the Talismoon Evolve series might be.

According to Divineo, everything needed to create a new-look PSP is included in a single package, consisting of the faceplate color of your choice, an illustrated diagram, hardened steel jeweler's screwdriver, a dazzling set of diamond series buttons as well as a finely made polishing cloth to preserve the appearance of your PSP for years to come.

If you want a custom look for your PSP but can't afford one of Sony's Signature PSPs, this may be an excellent way to go. And for only $15, you won't be out too much if you don't end up liking it. However, keep in mind that removing your face plate will void your PSP's warranty.

Get your bling on with a chrome PSP face plate

Get your bling on with a chrome PSP face plateIf you don't have the cash flow for one of the Playstation Signature PSPs but want to look like you do, you might be interested in this far less expensive alternative - the XCM chrome PSP face plate - for about $23.

Available from Divineo's UK site, the face plate gets its unique color and smoothness from a "special process" that supposedly enhances your gaming experience. How it does this is beyond me, but it does sure look purdy.

The face plate comes with a new D-pad, all face buttons and a screw driver. And if the chrome color isn't your thing, a "Smooth as Silk" color is also available. Yeah, don't ask.
