Syphon Filter: Combat Ops beta hidden in Logan's Shadow demo

Some time ago, hackers found an interesting beta for the multiplayer component of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. The multiplayer feature appears to be incredibly thorough, given its own presentation and title: Syphon Filter: Combat Ops.

There are five game modes in multiplayer, two of which are new to the franchise. In Sabotage, two teams must locate bomb codes and arm the other team's nuclear warhead. The other mode, Retrieval, is a virtual scavenger hunt of sorts, where players must retrieve items scattered throughout the map. In addition, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Rogue Agent modes all return.

The servers were taken down, and information about Combat Ops has been hard to find. Thankfully, a user has uploaded a ton of impressive images from the beta to his Picasa album. Inside, you'll find some very impressive graphics, and a plethora of options to choose from. Hopefully, it won't be too long until we get some official confirmation of a Combat Ops beta.

Killzone multiplayer beta participants selected

Those who signed up for the Killzone multiplayer beta and haven't checked their e-mail in a while, may want to sort through the porn and pills spam, because you may have been selected to participate. I know this because I got selected and readers have e-mailed us to say they were also selected. While I'm under non-disclosure about the specifics of the multiplayer, I can say if you're a fan of Killzone: Liberation than you'll love the multiplayer. Don't feel too bad if you weren't selected for the beta, the multiplayer should be made available to everyone soon and we'll be sure to let you know when that day comes.

Would Sony eliminate PSP features?

Sony recently sent out a survey to Ratchet & Clank beta testers, and after a series of expected questions about the game, it moved on to more... interesting matters. One question asked users which feature they find to be of least value in the system, and can be eliminated. What?! There's absolutely no reason to get rid of any of PSP's features, even if they're sparingly used. I know I use every single feature listed in their survey, but the one I could probably live without would be the ability to view photos (but how will I add wallpapers to my system?).

Why would Sony ask such a terrifying question? Are future firmware upgrades taking up too much space? Maybe the functionality of the system has expanded beyond what the firmware internal memory is capable of holding. Let's hope not, because I want my PSP to do everything it possibly can.

PSP Fanboy hands-on: Ratchet & Clank

Did you successfully get into the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters beta test? The packages have been going out to the lucky GAP members that were fast enough to get into this very exclusive group (only 2000 people were allowed to sign up!). I've been playing a few rounds online, and it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience so far. The graphics are smooth, and the controls are pretty solid. It's been very easy to jump into a game, and the network connection has been fantastic, with lag not noticeable at all.

Rumor: 3.0 beta firmware from YourPSP?

Two tipsters sent in two different links showing the same image of a YourPSP member supposedly receiving a 3.0 firmware "beta." kedar pancholi sent a link in from MAXCONSOLE and wraggster sent a link in from DCemu. The firmware is supposed to include support for GIF, MOV, WMV and FLV files, and support for PSone emulation. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, I'm going to say this is a fake. Why? There's no reason to "beta" test something unless it has significant online capabilities. And, Sony isn't stupid enough to let a "beta" firmware out, one that could be ripe with potential security holes.

Ratchet & Clank online beta test

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is one of the few titles from Sony that will future Infrastructure multiplayer in the future. Gamer Advisory Panel members just received an e-mail inviting them to a beta test, with registrations limited to the first 2000 entrants. (We're not allowed to link to the application form, sorry!) With a beta test happening in the coming weeks, Ratchet & Clank is probably pretty far along in development. The game's supposedly going to come out in March, but wouldn't it be awesome if it came out just a little bit earlier?

If any of our readers are GAP members and partake in the beta test, shoot us a comment. We'll try to make you famous.
