Two tipsters sent in two different links showing the same image of a YourPSP member supposedly receiving a 3.0 firmware "beta." kedar pancholi sent a link in from MAXCONSOLE and wraggster sent a link in from DCemu. The firmware is supposed to include support for GIF, MOV, WMV and FLV files, and support for PSone emulation. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, I'm going to say this is a fake. Why? There's no reason to "beta" test something unless it has significant online capabilities. And, Sony isn't stupid enough to let a "beta" firmware out, one that could be ripe with potential security holes.

Unless Willy Wonka infiltrated Sony already, then this is probably a load of crap. A nice load of crap, but a load of crap nevertheless.

Who ever attempted to 'fake' this put a lot of effort into the Beta Agreement, UMD disc and case. Just look at all the detail (words, fonts, colors, etc). So I'll jump with everyone else;
I say its real.

ROFL so fake...you can see the pixelation around the words "System Update" and the font is strangely similar to Tahoma, Microsoft's standard font for Windows Update. You can also see it around the titles and bulletpoints on the paper. Lol...they must think us PSP Fanboys/girls are retarded.

if this is real it would go to developers not the general public, and also unlikly (although possible), to come in something as fancy as that, so 100% fake, as beta firmwares could brick your psp, and why would you need beta test a psp firmware, theres not much too it

lol. i'm sorry andrew, but wtf?
something does not have any online functionality at all to require beta testing, almost every single program.... ever was a beta at some point, no?
i'm not saying its real, although i think it might be, but possibly the beta testing is for people to alert sony about issues with the emulation, or the playback of , perhaps? and they pissibly would have sent copies out because 2000 unpaid beta testers are better then 5 paid ones...
na mean?

The piece of paper should be fold in 3 to fit in a envelop and not fold in 2.

Here's my two cents: something is blurred on the psp case next to "system update." It's a pink/purplish blob, you cant miss it. I say fake.

Not necessarily, Jerome. My cable company sends me a bill that's folded in 2, not 3. Depends on the envelope type. In the end, its probably fake. But then again, its really well done. I wonder how they pulled off the UMD disc?

Sorry, this is so fake. Was doing the rounds about three months ago, and if you can get your hands on a better quality photo you will see all the spelling and grammar mistakes in the letter. Can't for the life of me remember where I last read about this, but if I find it I'll link to it

A little bit of elbow grease can achieve anything - it's all about the work ethic, and niftier concepts have been realised. Granted that this is a decent job, but it's far cry from even matching some of the near-perfected hoaxes that define the very questionable nature of our beloved interweb.
This picture - as fake as they come; most of the logical reasons have already been supplemented in this thread, so to me, it's a land-slide win for the Yoon-Squad-School-Of-Thought.

also, that pixelation you see is just from the shitty jpeg compression...the whole picture is pretty pixelated...
it might just be asier to notice there because of the high contrast between the white and the blue?

why argue about the image quality and other such shit?
just read beneath the top paragraph:
"Here is the new features available."
Ok, 'here is' them.
Another asshole spends the time to make and disseminate a hoax and then screws up with kindergarten level grammar.

Sony would never write a letter with language like that.
I was in the Sony PS2 Online Beta's, and the language certainly was a lot more profesional in the letters I received from them.
Also, for example, Sony always referes to the PSone as 'PlayStation (PSone)'. not 'playstation One'.
As for all the pixelation, that is just because the image was saved as a low quality jpeg. It wasn't at all photoshopped. No need for that since the guy printed everything out. (The letter, the PSP case and probably also a little thingy to put in the UMD.)
So what betrays te fact that it's a face is the simple language and the fact the letter isn't folded in three. (If the letter was placed in a package together with the UMD case it would fit a lot better folded in three... If it came in a seperate envelope, well Sony mostly uses 2:1 envolopes for as far as I know so it would still be folded in three.
So yeah, it's FAKE.
