Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow won
Game of the Year (and reader's vote) on PSP Fanboy. So, what did other major media outlets pick as their PSP GOTY? We searched the web and found out.
- GameSpot chose Puzzle Quest. "Puzzle Quest's bizarre (and bizarrely successful) confluence of gameplay mechanics really is precisely what makes it so addicting."
- GameSpy chose Final Fantasy Tactics. "Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is arguably one of the best games put forth by Square Enix, with one of the better turn-based strategy gameplay systems yet developed."
- GameTrailers chose Final Fantasy Tactics.
- IGN chose Syphon Filter. "There's a reason why Logan's Shadow is the highest rated PSP title on our site: if you own the system, you owe it to yourself to experience one of the best titles ever made for a handheld."
The winners for PSP awards are different across all the sites -- did one of your favorite games take home the gold?

Guess I'm the only one who didn't like neither Syphon Filter nor FF Tactics (the PSP port).
I'm really enjoying Silent Hill Origins tho.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow was the best game to come out this year. Silent Hill looks great also but I didnt lay much of it just some of the demo.

Sheesh... FFT is the most overhyped game of 2007. A barely improved PS1 game port is the best the system had to offer? If true, that's pretty sad. Good thing I know the truth... JDA is leagues better than FFT.

I'm a huge fan of strategy RPGs in general, but to this day I still have yet to play an FFT clone that surpasses said classic. Jeanne D'Arc was an excellent title and a romping good time, but it could come nowhere remotely near the depth of FFT's battle system, let alone compete with its virtually endless hours of playability beyond the main quest. And yes, Jeanne D'Arc was remarkably fun overall, even in spite of its short playable length in comparison to FFT, but it simply had too many design flaws that spoke to its "lite" status in comparison to Tactics. Bizarre (and seemingly random) win/loss conditions, AI "cheats" (i.e. unexpected spawnings of entire enemy armies after you've already supposedly fulfilled the victory conditions), and ridiculously overpowered band-wearers all hold Jeanne back from the ranks of such classics as Final Fantasy Tactics.
That said, JDA was still a great title in its own right, complete with addictive gameplay, a captivating plot, a creative skill system, and particularly compelling characters. And to be honest I've put enough hundreds of hours into FFT that I really have little desire to play it again on the PSP (I'm rather looking forward to FFTA2 on the DS, actually).
As such, I would personally choose Jeanne D'Arc as my likely PSP game of the year pic, just above Silent Hill Origins (as my first foray into the series, in my lack of SH-experience bias I found myself incredibly impressed with the title) and Puzzle Quest.
