The 4GB Memory Stick Duo Pro continues to slowly lose a few dollars in price. Back
in June, we were able to score a 4GB stick for $40 ... now we can get one for $5 less: $35. If you don't have a Memory Stick yet (maybe you're waiting for the new
redesigned PSP?), getting a large capacity stick is crucial to
having fun with the system. We're quite pleased with the amount of music, videos and demos the 4GB card can hold (although we're keeping an eye out on the
8GB Memory Stick!).

FRYS.com to take advantage of this great deal.

I just got the 2 I bought 3 days ago at the $39 price. Yeah, 2. I have a LOT of shows I TiVo and transfer, and lots of down time to watch away from home.
Forget the 8 gig @ $150+. What a joke!

I don't have a PSP yet (waiting for the PSP Slim), and know little about Memory Stick Pro Duo. In the 10 mins I've been checking around, this does look like a good deal. Will any MSPD work in the PSP? Is it worth it to buy a MSPD that boasts faster read/write speeds, like a Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III? Or does the PSP treat them all exactly the same performance-wise?

I ordered one up about half an hour ago. Would prefer a sandisk, but for only $35, why not? It'll hold me until I can get an 8gb sandisk for like $75ish

MDJ : I really dont think ... writing speed of a few gigs isnt that much ... maybe you can full it up in five , not in 3 minutes , but it really matters that much ?
Anyways , this is a pretty damn good deal IMO :)

I get confused. Which Sticks have compatibility issues with homebrew? Or, is that a thing of the past?

@3 I totally agree Sandisk rules. I can't remember when I bought my 4 GIG, it was a long time ago. But I got it for $60, which at the time was a steal. (I checked around a million different places.) I just wish I could have got it $35. If Only...

Does this work for game saves while playing games or is it just for music and videos?

@ MDJ: The type of card does matter. More specifically, the read speed is most important. Here are a couple links to a memory card tester homebrew program and the people's posted results:

damn. i paid $85 for my 4GB stick many moons ago. its a Sony brand one and it reads and writes as slow as all get out. i like having all that space (would love an 8GB) but waiting like 15 seconds for all my pictures to appear and like a minute for all my music to show on my PS3 (when plugged in via USB) is kind of annoying. i guess i say that to say, transfer time is definitely a big deal to the people who where asking. but at $35 this is a steal and a half. the people that dont already have a 4GB should pounce on this one.

o and i can also vouch for the Sandisk praise. i have a 1GB Sandisk (the gaming green see-through one) and that thing was a dream in terms of reliability and speed.

Yeah, I'd recommend this deal for those that don't have a 1GB or larger card or that primarly play games on UMD. Since most of my games are homebrew and backups I made so I don't have to carry around
a bunch of UMDs, I prefer the fast read speeds of the Sandisks. It looks like even the regular blue Sandisks have 15 M/b per second read speeds, whereas the UltraII and Extreme cards have 15 M/b per second write speeds too. Great PSP releated news item though, PSPfanboy!!!

just a note of caution. lexar sticks cannot handle prx plugins, in case you are homebrew savvy. i found out the sad way.

Not an owner, waiting for the Slim in Sept. But I made my first commitment steps towards purchasing one by buying the 4 gig card. Looks like I won't be getting the Daxter bundle after all!
Like everyone else, I've been hearing great things about Sandisk, but 4 gig is 4 gig, and I have to means of comparison anyway.

I just tried to order one and it's telling me the item is unavailable. Could they be sold out already, or is something wrong with their site?
