When GameDaily gave the PSP a B, our comments exploded with DS and PSP fanboys writing Masters theses on the handheld wars. (One of pixelator's posts was over 700 words long!) Well, here's some good news for you: a mainstream newspaper, the Boston Herald, gives the PSP an A.
Doug Elfman, the "Game Dork," talks about which next-gen system to give as gifts this year. His recommendation? Skip the Wii, skip the PS3, and go straight towards the PSP. "After a year and a half on the market, it's still pricey at $250. But scores of good games come out for PSP every month. It is sort of a luxury item, but I love it. It fits in my pocket, yet the screen is splendid."
Thousands of people are bound to read Elfman's recommendation, and Sony could use all the positive press it can get. Mr. Elfman recommends games like Loco Roco, Grand Theft Auto, Tiger Woods, Field Commander, and SOCOM.

Get SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2. If you like SOCOM or shooters, get the game. I got SOCOM3: Combined Assault on Wednesday and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2 yesterday. Lets say I have more hours logged on FTB2 than CA.
Zipper has done an EXCELLENT job.

Nice to see someone in the media, even if it isn't 'our' media pointing out that the PSP has some good games as well...

kelly,
Smoking common sense maybe? I'm not sure how well
the US launch will go, but only 5 launch games for Japan. If that isnt a ripoff at $500 to $600, I dont know what is!

Uh... if you're not into media functionality, then yes, the $500-600 PS3 is not a good value. However, if you want something that can do more than play games in your house, it'll be quite the machine. To doubt the PS3 launch would be nothing less than sheer insanity, looking at the lines that people are willing to endure, and the eBay markups that people are willing to pay.

Andrew Yoon,
I'm not sure how well the US launch will go, as in how many PS3 games will actually make it for the US launch. Already, Sonic the Hedgehog and Oblivion have been delayed from launch.
I think Doug Elfman advised gamers to skip the PS3 for this year because there arent many launch games to choose from, not to mention any killer apps. Xbox 360 had the same problem when it launched: No killer apps, but atleast there were plenty of launch games available. Wii has both going for it: a huge variety and atleast one killer app(Zelda TP). Red Steel still has to prove itself.

Looking at the Herald article, I am struck by the question: why doesn't he mention the DS?
Now before all of you jump on me, let me point out that I am NOT saying he can't endorse the PSP without talking about the DS as well. But at the beginning of the piece, he mentions the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 by name, but not the gaming device most directly in opposition to the PSP: the DS.
It just seems an odd thing to leave out.
