Well, now we get confirmation right from the source. Yeah, that's right, Bethesda has issued a press release confirming Oblivion is headed to the PSP in spring 2007. In America, the game will be published by Bethesda, while Ubisoft will publish it in Europe.
As if you didn't already know, this is a huge win for the PSP and PS3. I don't think there's anyone in their right mind who would argue that the PSP is the only major handheld system on the market that has enough horsepower to properly handle a game like Oblivion.
It's times like this that help me forget about things like hardware sales charts and focus on the massive amount of great games on the PSP's horizon. It truly is a great time to be a gamer.

Right. But how much of the game are we going to get? I already finished the game on my 360, I'm not going to pay to play a inferior game with inferior graphics and probably half the game cut out. Not to mention that we probably won't even get the full world like what we got on the 360.

I'm stoked to see some good games coming out for the PSP. I think Sony is probably the Great Satan, but man, I enjoy my PSP and keep hoping for some really compelling games to ship. Bethesda seems to be on top of things, and GTA games are always cool. Let's hope the trend continues.

Let's face facts. The PSP in no way "has enough horsepower to properly handle a game like Oblivion." All you'll get is an extremely watered-down port. They couldn't even properly port 50 Cent: Bulletproof. You guys honestly think the PSP can handle Oblivion?

Yeah. This just in: The PSP gets another half-assed port! Huge win guys.
I'd only buy this game if it were called Imperial City Stories and featured Tommy Vercetti as a wood elf.

This is not a port. It will feature similar gameplay, but take place in a different setting than Oblivion did. Most likely, Bethesda is using Oblivion in the title because of the recognition it will get.

Personally, I'm excited. I'm probably going to buy it. I loved Oblivion on my PC (actually bought a whole computer just to play it at the full settings), and I'm sure bethesda will put some value into this one.
To number 3: Looking at Bethesda's history regarding the Elder Scrolls Travels series (specifically the NGage games), the worlds are for the most part entirely different from those represented in their respective console/PC versions. And if nothing else, there'll at least be a buttload of new quests.

And how about the REALLY half assed ports? Rayman DS, Lego Star Wars, Sims (any), Super Monkey Ball, Ridge Racers DS, HARVEST MOON (the hype and subsequent letdown of this game was amazing)... Ad nauseum. See, ALL systems have 'watered down ports' and sometimes even those aren't all that bad. The entire industry is port-driven these days. And in the case of Nintendo, well, they port/rehash their (very) old stuff, repackage it slightly and sell it as new.
They've already said this is a new game, and will likely be tuned to run optimally on the PSP. What would be REALLY funny? A DS edition with godawful touchscreen controls and a tiny display with low poly models with a draw distance equal to your arm's length. But hey, if you yell 'WHEEE!' into the mic it makes a cute minigame come up!

pixelator, I missed you buddy. Here's the deal though, nobody was talking about DS ports. If you like "pragmatism without teh fanboyism" maybe you should practice what you preach.
