We all know the PlayStation 3 will have the same XMB as the PSP. However, there are some very pretty improvements. Phil Harrison demoed the console's photo ability and it is absolutely beautiful. Unlike the PSP, the PS3 can manipulate your photographs and make them appear as physical photos in a 3D environment. With upgradeable firmware, the PS3 will be able to have even more functionality as well.
The browser will also have multiple tabs, a la Firefox. The console will also support one universal login for online games (according to the 1UP Show). Hopefully, the improvements made to the XMB on the PlayStation 3 will find their way over to the PSP in a future firmware version.

Wow! I had heard about the XMB for the PS3 and seen photos, but the video clinches it. Very user friendly and with a lot of the features like Firefox I'm excited! Just need to save up that $600. Of course if I didn't have to spring for a new PSP case I would be a lot closer to that goal. Maybe someone from SF Bags or PSP Fanboy could help?

The XMB on the PS3 looks amazing. I think that the idea to use a common interface on their products was definitely a smart move. Since the PSP and the PS3 are supposed to be products that interact with each other and because they are in the same family, they should definitely have something in common other than their name.
I hope to see some problems from the PSP XMB (like the inability to play music while browsing or viewing photos, as well as doing other tasks while downloading) not make it to the PS3 version. However the plus size to using an HDD standard is that there is always room for firmware updates to correct any issues that do come up.
The XMB was a brilliant move by Sony. It's simple and intuitive. It's easy to find out where everything should be and access it.

you think.. I find the XMB on the PSP slow. When it comes to the (gameboots/demos) its very slow since it reads them one at a time and not all at once at bootup.
Also all the sony logo intros suck one at start and one everytime you run anything hope the ps3 gets only one at boot.
