There's something about the PSP and its great affinity towards CG women. The Ridge Racers series is famous for the CG model Reiko Nagase posing seductively on top of the cars. The upcoming Ridge Racers 2 is no different, as it continues the tradition. This video showcases some of the gameplay from the upcoming sequel and also shows you the sleek intro sequence as well. The game hasn't been announced for US release yet, but will be available in Japan in September.[Via IGN]

Why is nobody bothered that this is just more of the same?
I would understand if there was a different style of gameplay with better graphics or if they were to take a different approach but it's just the same old thing.
drifting can only be fun for so long.

Um, it's _Ridge Racer_, what else do you want other than new cars and tracks? You want it to become a different style of racing game altogether?
There are plenty of other titles in this genre with different gameplay to try: TOCA, ATV, WRC, Pac Man Rally, Burnout, Need for Speed, Pursuit Force, etc etc.

The original PSP Ridge Racers was also "more of the same" (ie. all of its tracks came from earlier titles in the series), but I think that was forgiven due to the fact that a) it was a launch game, and b) its graphics were new and impressive at the time.
Ridge Racers 2 doesn't have either luxury, so I agree that it does look a bit too familiar now. Online multiplayer could be a big differentiating point, but I'm doubtful that Namco can pull it off considering that so few PSP titles have done so to this point. Some new modes of play might help; the World Tour got dull after a while in the original.
Oh well, the graphics are slick and I'm sure it'll be fun for a bit. And hey, the intro features Reiko Nagase leaping barefoot through outer space, so it can't be all bad.

From IGN:
"Ridge Racers 2 continues where the PSP launch title left off, complete with a return of the nitro system, as well as all the drift-based racing that makes the series what it is.
Ridge Racers 2 adds a number of new modes to the original. In addition to the World Tours, Time Attack and Wireless Battle (still with 8 player ad-hoc support) from the original, you can now take part in Arcade, Duel and Survival modes. Arcade mode is set up like an arcade racer, where you attempt to reach a goal in a set time and earn additional time when crossing check points. Specifics on the Duel and Survival modes have yet to be revealed.
Bandai Namco is packing the title with cars and tracks. The game will include the highest number of courses yet seen in a Ridge Racer game. This includes 18 courses from previous games, spanning Ridge Racer to R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, none of which were in the original Ridge Racers. In terms of cars, the game promises six machine classes, each with three cars to begin with. You can expect a bunch of secret cars as well, include two special classes.
