This Monster Hunter PSP pouch and cover is awesome

Considering how insanely popular the Monster Hunter brand is in Japan, it's no wonder every accessory manufacturer and their dog is cashing in on the imminent release of Monster Hunter 2nd G next month. Of all the merchandise being released, this has to be our favourite (yes, even including that amazing Monster Hunter 2nd G limited edition PSP). The furry pouch, shown above (more images here), coupled with the leather PSP cover allows you to feel like a true Monster Hunter yourself. Imagine walking down the street with this hanging off your belt. King of the beasts.

Okay, so this may not be the greatest fashion accessory if you happen to live on Earth, and not in the world of Monster Hunter. It does, however, still make an excellent carry case and you'll never have to worry about your PSP being smashed under all those protective layers. Plus, did we mention it's totally furry? Awesome.

Homemade guitar-shaped bag to hold PSP

Alisha from DS Fanboy sent us a link to this lovely homemade PSP craft. With official pouches and cases so hard to come by for PSP-2000 systems, mewyam decided to sew an original guitar-shaped bag for her boyfriend's PSP system. This meticulously crafted design not only looks stylish, but works well too: "the PSP rests perfectly in the bottom curved part so it's far from evil snatching hands"

We'd like to get our hands on one as well. But first, we have to buy a girlfriend. Where do we do that?

New PSP pouches for Japan: horizontal stripes are so in

Ready to get your import on? PlayStation just announced some new carrying pouches for the new Slim PSP. The pouches are exciting to look at, especially if you like the store Sanrio Express -- that is, Hello Kitty Central. Not sure why that popped into our heads, because all things considered, the pouches are more stylish than the heat-absorbing black ones we're used to. Priced at a meager 1,800 yen, the pouches aren't really putting people back that much anyway.

An interesting thing to note about these pouches is not only will it carry your PSP comfortably, but you can also toss in a couple of UMD games (or movies), which have their own little pouches, and your headphones for that sense of game-music privacy. That's a pretty good move and one we'd entirely expect, since carrying around PSP cases isn't very fun and carrying just the discs is a pretty big tragedy waiting to happen.

PSP Fanboy tries Rosenqueen's PSP pouch

You may know NIS America for their beloved RPG series, like Disgaea. But did you know that they also offer gaming peripherals? NIS America's Rosenqueen store offers PSP accessories, such as the PSP pouch (pictured above). Personally, I find pouches to be a lot more comfortable to carry than larger (but sturdier) cases. I found the Soft Pouch offered at the Rosenqueen store to be quite nice. In many ways, it's superior to the pouch bundled with the original PSP Value Pack. Firstly, it comes in two different colors (orange being a personal favorite). Unlike Sony's pouch, the system is unlikely to fall out thanks to the Velcro strap.

If there is one thing to criticize about the pouch, it's the feel. The materials for the pouch are much softer than the ones used in Sony's official pouch. While nice to the touch, it seems less likely to survive a serious accident unscathed. It does come at quite an affordable price: only $7, which certainly beats the $20 asking price of Sony's official pouches.

Overall, we recommend the Soft Pouch from Rosenqueen. It looks unlike anything out on the market, and it's incredibly affordable. It certainly isn't for everyone--those looking for a hard case can find some on sale at amazon. However, for those looking for a lightweight alternative for PSP protection, this may be it.

Japan gets pretty designer pouches

Japan sure loves their pretty PSP cases. On March 30th, Gametech will be releasing some PSP pouches: they look pretty, but they sure don't look like they'll hold up to abuse. At 3980 yen, it certainly doesn't come cheap--but that's the high price you pay for fashion, no?

Tales of the World bundle hitting Japan

Wow, Japan gets the best bundles. On December 21st (one day before the Metal Gear Solid bundle comes out), the Japanese will be able to pick up a Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology bundle, which includes the game, a blue PSP, a limited edition pouch, and more for 28,000 yen ($237).

Considering how Tales of the World is essentially fan service, in game form (it features characters from various Tales games), this package will no doubt destroy all of Japan, and give the PSP the attention it so rightfully deserves. Importers may want to get their wallets ready for this one.

PaRappa wrappin' good!

Sony revealed even more pouches for the system, and this time, they're not as ridiculously overpriced as the sexy Signature line ones. These sweet PaRappa and Ape Escape pouches only cost 1500 yen (less than $15), making them quite a sweet deal. Look past the cut to see the even more sweetness.
