Merry Christmas from the Patapon tribe

Sony is sending yet another Christmas gift to members of the media. This time, it's a Christmas card featuring the Patapon tribe. Stephen Totilo from MTV is as much love with the game as we are, and who can blame him? The music-war game is one of the most innovative in recent memory, and it has a truly endearing style. Totilo expresses a valid concern about most portable gamers: many seemingly play their systems on mute -- something that simply won't work for Patapon. Hopefully, when players are able to get their hands on Patapon next year, they'll bust out some headphones for this rhythmically inclined game.

New LocoRoco demo is not-so-new

As expected, the Japanese PS Store was updated today with a "new" Christmas demo of LocoRoco. The problem? It's not new at all. It's the same demo as the one we featured last year, unfortunately. Most likely, a lot of new PSP owners haven't experienced the glory that is LocoRoco and this revival of the Christmas demo will serve as a gateway drug for more of these blubbery critters. Good move, Sony -- but we want some new LocoRoco fun ... soon.

Do games give you the Christmas effect?

Remember when you were a child and Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrated came around, the excitement that filled your every fiber? The anticipation and obsession for the event and when it came, you were drenched in a euphoria that caused you to speak louder than usual, or move around excitedly. I still get that feeling, but now it's brought on by games more often than events. Awaiting the next AAA title and the first time it boots up on your screen still has a magic to me that I can only describe as the Christmas effect. Nothing else fills me with this sort of reliable joy like gaming does and it got me to wonder how many other people can relate to this. Do you get butterflies the day of a big game release? Is your face froze in a permanent smile as you take the cellophane off your latest game? Or is one game the same as the next to you and while you enjoy it, you're not overwhelmed by the experience? Have any games on the PSP made you feel this way?

Fake blog admits it was "too funky fresh"

It looks like the now-infamous Sony blog, "all i want for christmas is a psp," is going to keep it real. Shockingly, the blog writer "isn't a real hip-hop maven." The apology states that the blog will now be used to give "nothing but the facts" on the PSP, but we're sorry, Sony. No way you're going to compete with us!

All I want from Sony is better advertising

The Internet is filled with tons of awful, awful things. And the people of Something Awful make their living looking for the Internet's worst. They discovered a Sony-owned and operated blog called "all i want for xmas is a psp." While many PSP enthusiasts will agree with an idea like that, the blog is clearly corporate. Watch this video, found on the site, which features a suspiciously old looking white "teen" that performs a video so bad, it's not even funny. Do you think this kind of advertising would work... on anybody?

Loco Roco Christmas downloadable demo

Get in the holiday spirit with Loco Roco. It appears, as promised, a Christmas themed version of Loco Roco has hit the net for your downloading pleasure. If you've downloaded demos before, you know what to do:

1. Download the demo ZIP file.
2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy NPJG90001 folder into directory.

Video Sandwich: December 10, 2006

Slow news day? Yeah. Even our Joystiq sister site hasn't really updated today! Well, hopefully these two videos can entertain you while you wait for that Loco Roco demo that's supposed to come out tomorrow. The first video is submitted by Daylon Schindler. Cheap PSP knockoff + Christmas = hilarity. Hopefully, we'll have a follow-up after Christmas to write about!

Secondly, you'll see Sony's latest ad in Asia, trying to promote all things Sony. I think the message is: buy Sony products, don't get turned into a Borg. (Oh, and in passing, I'll make note that my PS3 is officially broken. Damn. I guess I have to send it back in.)

New Loco Roco & Final Fantasy VII demos to arrive in time for holidays

We PSP fanboys love to play demos. We've been blessed with a plethora of demos for Loco Roco, but it seems like they're not done quite yet. A key observer on the PlayStation forums noticed that YourPSP described plans on releasing a Christmas-themed demo of Loco Roco to supplement the Halloween demo that came out about a week ago. Considering how the game is about eating everything in sight, wouldn't a Thanksigiving themed demo also be appropriate?

Another noteworthy demo to come out later this year is the highly anticipated PSP-exclusive Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Jeux-France reported about a week ago that an issue of Famitsu reveals the producer's intentions to have a playable demo available by the end of the year. If it comes around the time of the other Loco Roco demo, it seems like PSP fanboys will have a lot of free demo playing on their hands this holiday season.

Whew... that's quite a list. I know I'll personally be picking up at least five of these titles. Also, is it just me, or are game titles just getting way too long these days?

Engadget's ultimate fake PSP collection

It's August 25th. You know what that means... only 4 months until Christmas! Better start shopping. While you could get your friends real PSPs (or even better yet: a signature edition PSP), but if you're a cold-hearted Scrooge like me, you'll much rather get them knockoffs. Sure, PSP Fanboy's shown you a few before, but Engadget has rounded up a real winner of a list here. For the price of one real PSP, you can piss off at least nine of your friends. And isn't that what the holiday spirit is about?

Happy Holiwhatever from PSP Fanboy

We here at PSP Fanboy would like to take this opportunity to greet everyone a Merry Christmas! We hope that your PSP schwag this year is worthwhile and plentiful, and may the rest of your vacation time be spent disassociating yourself from family to be within your own little portable gaming world. We're just joshing; socialize, socialize! Whatever you decide to do, we're almost sure that by now you've probably gotten all your gifts, you're ecstatic at the stash you've received, and you're already dreading the day when those photos of you in your PJs clapping your hands hysterically at all your presents on the morning of the 25th come out on the Internet.
