PSP Slim Daxter Entertainment pack available immediately

In a surprise move, Sony has announced that the PSP Slim Daxter bundle is available right now. The package includes the silver PSP Slim, the greatest hits version of Daxter and the Family Guy Freakin' Sweet Collection UMD, a well as a 1 GB memory stick for $199.

The accessories such as additional AC adapters, the sexy video out cables, or the new headphone adapter will be released in the following weeks. Also the black PSP Slim solo PSP package will be released 'during September' with the white Star Wars Battlefront PSP Slim package coming in October. Big news, so who out there is gonna be the first person to pick up a new PSP and report back here?

[Update] According to commentors, the pack is available sporadically across the country. In the meantime, you can order it from Gamestop online right here. It is in stock and will ship today (or maybe tomorrow depending on their cut off time).

Press release after the jump.

Top 100 selling games of 2006

Next Generation has the top 100 selling games for 2006 and the only PSP exclusive game on the list is Daxter coming in at number 92 with 240,000 copies sold. That sounds quite bad on paper until you realize that multi-system games make up most of the list and the vast majority had a PSP iteration (like Family Guy and NFL Street 3). So while there may not be many PSP exclusives on the list, it did undoubtedly help several titles on the list reach their respective positions. I would be very curious to see the overall year's worth of just PSP games. I also can't help but hope that this week's Ratchet & Clank fairs as well as Daxter. What PSP game that didn't make the list do you wish was a top 100 seller?

Sony marketing asks you to "Find Me"

I've been looking for days to find a direct-feed version of Sony's new commercial, entitled "Find Me." Unfortunately, I couldn't. "Find Me" is part of Sony's newly revamped PSP marketing plan. It tells the touching story of a man who must find a girl through a Memory Stick loaded with clues in photo and video form. A hard-to-get girl that plays with a PSP must be worth the effort of running around the city. The ad can be seen on shows like Family Guy, The Daily Show, and Sports Center.

"The PSP system has already been established as a popular gaming handheld, but it was designed to do so much more -- from playing music and videos to sharing photos and accessing the Internet," said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing, SCEA. "These marketing initiatives deliver the broader PSP brand message and offer PSP owners the entertainment experience they're thirsting for from a content perspective."

IGN picks its top 10 PSP games for this holiday

IGN picks its top 10 PSP games for this holiday
Just in time for next week's infamous Black Thursday, IGN has released its 2006 Holiday Buyer's Guide and has also added their 10 choices for PSP games that should fill your stockings this Christmas. That's if you've been a good boy or girl, because if you've been bad, you get Family Guy.
  • Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
  • Daxter
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
  • Killzone: Liberation
  • LocoRoco
  • Medal of Honor Heroes
  • Mercury Meltdown
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
  • Tekken: Dark Resurrection
What, no Sega Genesis Collection or EA Replay? And while Daxter is a very good game, I don't think too many kids will go Nintendo 64 Kid crazy over getting a game released in March. Still, this is a pretty decent list, and I can't argue with it too much. If you're PSP shopping for someone, you might want to refer to this list.

First Family Guy gameplay video released

I gotta say the Family Guy game is looking pretty darn sharp with its cell-shaded graphics, and IGN has just released the game's first video, showing off those gorgeous good looks. However, don't get too excited yet because this video has been added to all IGN channels its being developed for. Still, even if it's not the PSP version, it should still look very comparable.

Gamespy had the privelage to play an early build and said the gameplay tends to get boring, but the visuals and storyline are very good.

Family Guy, which will be published by 2K Games and developed by High Voltage Software is set to ship Oct. 16.

Family Guy previewed

Family Guy previewedA few years ago, the thought of a Family Guy video game was almost laughable. The series was cancelled and things weren't looking good, but thanks to the success of the series on DVD and immense fan support, the cartoon was resurrected and now things everything is happy, happy, joy, joy.

Hoping to cash in on its new-found success, 2K Games and developer High Voltage Software are bringing Family Guy to the PSP Oct. 2.

The game, which is cell-shaded and what cartoon-based game isn't anymore, puts players in control of Stewie, Peter and Brian, each with their own storyline.

Gamespy says the graphics are nice and the storyline is fun, but the gameplay may get boring to some, and High Voltage Software needs to address some animation and audio problems.
