Koei is rather "comfortable" with the hack 'n slash formula they've refined over the years. In fact, their upcoming PSP title, Warriors Orochi is a blend of their most successful button mashers: Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. As you can tell by this gameplay footage, if you've seen any of these games in action before, this will look awfully familiar ...

I never understood what's so fun about attacking hundreds of idiots holding weapons that hardly (if ever) use them.

Is it? There's enough of them out there to choose from, I could give at least one a try.

the most fun part of these games is playing split screen co-op with friends (or in my case my wife). Doing the same thing over and over again in single player seems to get a lot more tedious if youre not being helped by someone else..

I bought DW3 and there's no need to buy another one until Koei completely remakes the series from the ground up.

Agreed, if you played one of 'em, you've played them all. And that's not some knock off comment about teh genre, the games really are just that similar. I guess at least with new licences you get new characters and locales but I played 2 of the DW games and they had the same damn stories/characters. Ridiculous. Haven't touched it since...but I wouldn't mind checking out that Gundam one that still isn't announced for the US. Anime slut :(.

Long post is long...
I've played a few games in the DW series (both 3 and 4 on the PS2 and the latest installment on the 360) and I have to say that this is the most fun I've had playin DW since 3. With so many characters (70+) and then adding a special item for each character and the weapon customization system, Orochi really is a blast in my opinion.
And what makes it even better than the console version is that it's on the PSP so it's ready for you to play anytime. For the most part, the levels aren't too long, which is nice for on-the-go play and I didn't experience any slowdown at all in the gameplay. I think this game converted quite excellently from the PS2 version and anyone who enjoys a romp in the DW world, new or old, should definitely give this one a try.
There's enough unlockable goods to keep ya busy for a long time. I've been playin it for 2 weeks now and just finally completed all the stages. Factor in additional time for acquiring and customizing 4th weapons and then getting the special item for each character, and there's plenty of fun to be had. Since you can switch between 3 characters during battle, I find the gameplay isnt so repetitious since there are lots of combos and weapon styles. I havent been a big DW fan lately, but this one is worth the pickup for fun portable play.
