Sony starts extensive PSP campaign on adult swim
Cartoon Network's adult swim website is being plastered with ads for the new PSP. Good thing -- the adult swim demographic is exactly what Sony needs to target to keep PSP momentum strong. Check out Bertrum's Almanack, which provides some "fun facts" to listeners. Unfortunately, the site says that "Bertrum's Almanack not available on PSP system." But, games like NBA 08 and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow are. Hopefully, this campaign is one of many Sony's planning to promote their handheld.

Yes, FINALLY. They can also start by GETTING WORD OUT that there's revised hardware, namely the PSP-2000.
But it's true, Adult Swim exemplifies the target PSP demographic. Hit those Family Guy and Anime viewers!

Before I begin, let me preface this by saying I am new-as-of-a-month-ago PSP Slim owner and have really enjoyed the games I've bought so far - both Lumines(es), Street Fighter Alpha, Tekken, Def Jam, Jeanne d'Arc, Syphon Filter, and some others.
As I was holding my newly purchased PSP-phat (I wanted homebrew) last night I got a little sad that it took me so long to take the plunge. Even the PSP-phat is a GREAT little gaming device and it's too bad the PSP has received such a bad rap. Yeah, it started out waaaay too expensive, and it took a while to establish a great library of games, but it is a fantastic gaming machine. Custom firmware just makes it better (for those that groan, I did it ONLY to play the PSX games I _own_ on the PSP).
I use Phantom Hourglass to unwind before bed, but the PSP has pretty much retired my DS as my portable console.

The PSP was never basically any more expensive than the $199 and $249 initial pricing in Japan - it seemed to be more because the USA didn't get the stripped down basic pack until much later on, and the $249 pack was arguably not worth the pricetag after they stopped adding the Spiderman UMD, since it lacked a game.
At any rate, the original $199 basic edition was not what I'd call 'way overpriced'.

@pixelator, with all due respect (and I'm saying with ALL due respect), that ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on.
Even $199 for a handheld with no game and no memory stick is insane, worse at $299 for the Entertainment Pack. The DS was $50 cheaper at the time for the base unit. _$50_!! That's 25% cheaper AND it was backwards compatible with GBA games. Additionally, the cost of the playstation 2 itself was like $149 at the time, also $50 cheaper.
Sorry, the PSP was waaaay overpriced when it first came out.

@p-diddly: What're you sorry about? That ridiculous analogy?
Fortunately for the rest of us, your opinion of the PSP being "WAAAAAY OVERPRICED" wasn't shared by millions of people who bought in before the price drop. Had you been correct, we might not be enjoying the game selection and developer support we are, right now.
"Even $199 for a handheld with no game and no memory stick is insane"
But $50 less for a DS is great? That seems to be a pretty narrow view of OK to INSANE, dude.
"worse at $299 for the Entertainment Pack."
$300 is a lot of cash, and if the PSP were nothing but a Gameboy, I'd agree. But PSP multifunctionality isn't available on a Gameboy or even the popular DS. So yeah, you pay more.
"The DS was $50 cheaper at the time for the base unit. _$50_!!"
Is $50.00 such a huge deal to you? I think the PSP is worth *at least* that much more than the DS - even at this late date, and it was even more true in 2004/2005.
"That's 25% cheaper AND it was backwards compatible with GBA games."
GBA games were just about the only things worth playing on it for first 10 or so months, as the initial game selection SUCKED. As in, I sold my silver DS Phat in DISGUST. Not to mention the fact that the screen and overall form factor also SUCKED on the original DS.
"Additionally, the cost of the playstation 2 itself was like $149 at the time, also $50 cheaper."
Apples/Oranges. The PS2 was 5 years old at that point and had originally debuted at $299.
