Some gamers may feel jaded about the lack of improvements the PSP version of Symphony of the Night will feature. If Rondo of Blood can get the full 3D makeover, certainly this beloved PS1 classic can also receive some extras? Well, more isn't necessarily better, as seen by the Saturn version of this beloved adventure game.
1UP showcases the horrors of the Saturn version, filled with unnecessary extras that actually detract from the experience more than add to it. This episode of Retronauts shows you the horrors of a great game ruined by an overly ambitious port design. Let's be glad that our version of Symphony of the Night won't be as horrific as this.

SotN (along with DoS) are one of the best looking sprites based games out there, so I am glad that they won't remake SotN.
Remaking Rondo of Blood with 3D graphics and 2D gameplay makes sense from a marketing point of view.

I'm really confused. Granted, I only have the PlayStation version of the game, but what exactly is so bad about the Saturn version? It's a problem that you can play as Maria? Why isn't that just a nice bonus? What's the complaint exactly?

These guys have no idea what they're talking about. The Saturn was a rushed port with tacked on extras. If the Saturn been "the system", it would have been far superior to the PSX version. The PSX absolutely sucked at 2d. All they do is bitch about how bad the Saturn version is.
Anybody remember the Marvel vs Street Fighter and Xmen Vs Street Fighter ports? The Saturn versions were arcade perfect, with zero load times, and pretty much all frames of animation. The PSX version? No tag team, horrible load times, and LOTS of dropped frames of animation. Therefore I think this "retronauts" episode sucks and holds no merit.

I *still* want the option to play as Maria included. Regardless of whether things were rough in the Saturn version (and having a different developer for that port really does play a big part), there's no reason why the problems couldn't be smoothed over for the PSP version. I don't want an overhall, I just want a definitive release.
