A keen observer at the GameSpot forums noticed a small detail in one of GameSpot's recent PS3 features. They show how to download a movie file to the PSP's Memory Stick, and as you can see in the screenshot above, you'll see the typical PSP folders: PHOTO, MUSIC, PSP, MP_ROOT. However, you'll also see a folder called ISO, which is the file format ripped games are usually saved as.
While there are a ton of other explanations for this (like publishers sending them ISO files to review), it's funny to think that maybe PSP piracy may be in use, even by people at a large site like GameSpot.

Ahh... if only I could rip my own games to ISO and play off memory stick. Star Wars Battlefront II has such a long load time that you can probably brew coffee waiting for it.
While I'm complaining, I hate the fact that it doesn't autosave. Anyways....

Gamesp'owned!!! I'm sure GS as a company does not condone it, but who can govern the actions of individual employees? Or do they really receive enough copies of games to go around?

@darkmoon: You can. Stay tuned
Note that the ISO directory in the root is required by many custom PSP firmwares. Dark Alex's fantastic 2.71 SE, for instance, requires this. In my case, while this folder exists in my root, there is nothing in it.
I agree that it is unlikely that anybody as GS would need to pirate games but don't doubt for a second that they are running homebrew. I love my PSP out of the box, but a PSP running homebrew is even better!
That being said, once you have installed a modified firmware or firmware 1.5, there are any number of ways to rip your legally purchased UMDs to a memory stick. Though I have not yet done so on my PSP, I plan to. As I did with my modded XBOX 1.0, load times are vastly superior when an optical device is not involved. There are also significant benefits to your battery life. The only drawback is that you'll need a lot of memory sticks if you want to be able to readily switch from game to game.
This, in and of itself may violate the ELUA, but is not, in my humble opinion, piracy. I imagine Sony would beg to differ with me. They would win.
