Hi! PlayStation magazine launches

Oh, another online magazine? Haven't we had enough? Maybe. But, you should still pay attention to this one. Sony has launched a new PlayStation magazine, and it's pretty good. The first issue features some crisp direct-feed images of the upcoming PSP Final Fantasy games, including Dissidia and Crisis Core. It's not anything we haven't seen before, but it's nice to see these pictures with newfound clarity.

While our inability to decipher Japanese certainly hampers some of the experience, the pretty pictures are more than worth the (nonexistent) entrance fee. Besides, magazines are always about the pictures, right?

HGZine mag scores exclusive Wipeout Pulse preview

And everyone benefits. HGZine's latest issue is filled with some incredible features, but the one that tops it all is their cover feature: Wipeout Pulse. Reading through the media-heavy PDF can cause some older machines to chug, but we have to admit that we were impressed with this month's offerings. Learning more about the subtle control changes to Pulse is certainly worthwhile, and their feature on "the 10 best games you've never played" is certainly appreciated. Best of all? It's free.

GoPlay magazine goes online-only

There are tons of fan-published PSP magazines out on the Internet, and now they're going to get some serious competition. GoPlay, "the UK's best-selling independent PlayStation Portable magazine," will soon switch from its traditional newsstand distribution to a strictly online-only one. According to GI.biz, the format change will "make it easier for readers to access content on their PSPs".

The current issue of the magazine features Star Wars: Lethal Alliance and costs £3.99 on newsstands. It's not clear how much the digital version will cost, if anything at all.

Oblivion: first magazine scan found

The November issue of OPM has exclusive details of the upcoming PSP version of Oblivion. The scans of the game look not too shabby... it looks a heck of a lot better than the N-Gage Elder Scroll's game. According to the article, the PSP version of Oblivion will be "a very different game with a different story line... it has the experience of the dungeon romp. It doesn't have wide-open, wander-the-landscape kind of stuff."

Even though the game's functionality seems a little stripped down, Obivion for PSP will still feature a character creation system, and 18 of the original game's 21 skills. The controls are going to be simplified, of course, and the designers cite Metroid Prime as a source of inspiration, which is only a good thing.

Check out the full magazine scan, if you like, or buy the issue when it hits newsstands.

ACAMM: the freshest anime mag for the PSP

ACAMM, the anime PSP magazine has been doing some interesting stuff for the handheld. The latest issue features Samurai Champloo, the hip-hop infused story about two samurai on a journey. The magazine goes over the basics of the show, and anime in general. It also goes one step further: it provides stills that can be rapidly viewed through, similar to how one would play with a picturebook. It's pretty interesting, and shows the great effort that ACAMM is placing into each issue. Each image is wallpaper-worthy, and the .zip file for this month's issue even includes a video. Kudos to the ACAMM team: keep up the good work.

PRIMED mag goes for third run

Rapper 50 Cent's first solo foray into video game land may not have received the acclaim he expected (it garnered a score of "suck" from nearly everybody), but that didn't keep online mag Primed from hitting up the projectile-riddled verbal jouster for an interview in their third issue. Sadly, and as is usually the case with the independently run PSP magazines we've seen, their reviews for SOCOM and Tokobot are a bit late, but it's not like we don't appreciate input from the more objective, non-biased members of the gaming media anyway. So to them we say, "Bring it on, homies".

Kill Your FM: Issue 4 ready for perusal

Independent music lovers can squeal with partial-hipster glee now that the latest issue of Kill Your FM has hit the net. The PSP-formatted magazine has a ton of compelling content, headed up by an interview with the man who created the highly-popular online indie CD distribution site CDBaby.com. The mag also contains stuff from people you've likely never heard of, like The Thieves, Pandora, and 15 Megs of Fame. An article comparing 1920's Jazz to current hardcore music and a celebration of the MP3 format's tenth birthday round out the issue.

There are two versions of the magazine you can download: a multimedia edition with audio from the featured artists, and a "vanilla" version with just the magazine. We recommend getting the one with the bells and whistles, if only because we think you're spending way too much time with those Christmas tunes in 8-bit (humbug, we say!)

[Thanks, Jason]
