Airport Hero downloadable demos

We have to admit: we have absolutely no idea how to play this game. Airplane simulators are quite popular in Japan, but our limited experience with the genre in America has made it all but impossible for us to truly understand the appeal of this title. Regardless, for the few Japanese readers we have, we proudly present not one, but two, Airport Hero demos.

Demo #1:
1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULJM05171 folder into the GAME directory.

Demo #2:
1. Download the demo zip file. Follow steps 2-4 listed above.
2. Copy ULJM05128 folder into the GAME directory.

New PSP commercial takes to the skies

Sony's "Dude, Get Your Own" campaign is finally in full swing. The first of the ads to appear on prime time TV involves an overzealous passenger on an airplane completely entranced by his neighbor's PSP. What follows is 45 seconds of pure annoyance. While it gets the point across, this kind of advertising still feels immature: it fails to showcase the PSP's true capabilities, and doesn't seem to target a different audience than their previous ads.

Who thought the urinal ad was better?

The jets & sets of After Burner: Black Falcon

Did you know that the upcoming After Burner: Black Falcon uses real world, licensed aircraft? Neither did I, until Gamespot talked to producer Ryan Kauffman. He reveals the crafts that are used in the game, such as the F-14X Tomcat, the F-15E Strike Eagle, and the F/A-18E Super Hornet. Those that know their planes may appreciate the inclusion of more modern craft, such as the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning II.

While the vehicles of After Burner may stick true to the real world, it appears that the locations are based in fantasy. The term "reality plus one" reflects upon the level designs, which vary from a lush jungle environment, to a snowy tundra. My favorite named level? Mountainistan. Just has a nice ring to it.

We'll keep our eyes open for more info on Sega's upcoming game. After Burner hits stores March 20th.

Pair of new Ace Combat trailers

Ace Combat fans will be excited by the new (highly promotional) preview of the upcoming PSP-exclusive Ace Combat X on IGN. They reveal some of the features, such as the Medal System, Color Variation and Free Mission. The mini games listed include Touch and Go, Mid-Air Refueling Practice and Carrier Touch & Go. While it doesn't sound too exciting to me, I'm sure those of you that were fascinated by planes will be absolutely enthralled.

If you don't really feel like reading about these features, IGN has also posted two new trailers of the game in motion. Graphically, it looks impressive, but it seems like that's a given for most PSP games these days. The game comes out in October.

Snakes on a Plane star promotes PSP

The gripping story of ophidiophobia in the sky has propelled Snakes on a Plane star Kenan Thompson into the spotlight. Throughout most of the film, he's seen playing the PSP. But what game has him so engrossed? An interview at Yahoo reveals all:
  • "I was playing NBA Street Showdown on the PSP during filming. I was playing it a whole lot and I was getting really good at it."
  • The PSP was not included in Kenan's contract: "I had to give it back after we finished filming, but I had my own, so I wasn't tripping."
  • Kenan thinks the PSP's one of the best handhelds around, due to its multiple capabilities: "You put it in your car and it turns into an MP3 player. It's crazy."
Of course, more amazing than the PSP being in Snakes on a Plane is knowing that Samuel L. Jackson plays the system as well: "Sam Jackson loves video games. I think I might have caught him playing my PSP a couple of times on set. He's a cool dude like that." Awesome!

Read the rest of the interview to find out more on a potential sequel to the movie (Lizards on the Backs of Llamas on a Boat) and what he thinks about the DS and the Brain Age games ("I felt stupid the first time I played it").

PSP on Snakes on a Plane

There are motherf--in' PSPs on this motherf--in' plane filled with motherf--in' snakes.

Okay, admit it: you're secretly part of the phenomenon. You've probably spent days Photoshopping funny snakes and plane-related posters, and you've spent hours blogging about it. Well, the day of reckoning is here: the Snakes on a Plane movie is finally out. Our sister site, DS Fanboy, has some interesting video game-related snippets from the film:
Kenan Thompson's character Troy is shown throughout the movie as a video game junkie...how? He sports a black PSP model, yelling and screaming at the machine. Later, in a brief shot, an eight year-old is shown occupying himself idly with a (phat) Nintendo DS.
Good Burger-star and SNL regular Kenan's love of the PSP shows how at least in the public image battle, the PSP is a long way ahead of the PSP: Nintendo and the DS, for better or worse, is still "t3h k1ddy."

Okay, that's the end of this incredible non-news story. Like my DS Fanboy colleague, this really was nothing more than a thinly veiled way for us to bring up the movie. The movie's out now, and is rated R for Retarded Restricted Audiences.
