PSP Fanboy hands-on: Prinny: Is It Okay If I am the Main Character?

Disgaea fans probably jumped in excitement upon hearing the news that Prinnies would be getting their own game for PSP. Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? is the aptly cute pseudo-2D side-scroller which is also being released in North America. While fans may be squealing in delight over that, here's one more tidbit that's going to make your day: you can play the game now off a demo on the Japanese PS Store. If you can't download it or just plain old stuck at work and can't get to it until you're at home, then we're providing our very own impressions for your convenience.

Getting right into it, the demo was a short, one-level adventure taking us through scenery we've seen in screenshots previously (namely the one posted above). As you can see, the environmental objects are 3D models and there will be times when certain actions will cause the camera to shift into this 3D perspective; however, the game is mostly in the 2D perspective, side-scrolling from left to right. Before you start the level you'll be given two optional difficulties: either a "one-hit you're dead" game or a "three-hit chance." The number of hits you can take will be displayed by icons placed in the upper left corner of the screen. If you die, you'll use up a life point which are all displayed in the bottom left.

Prinny Disgaea title coming to the States

The fine folks over at Siliconera got a chance to speak to the marketing manager of NIS America, Jack Niida, about Disgaea DS. Those sneaky snakes managed to surprise Niida with a question about the possibility of a localized version of the PSP-exclusive platformer Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? -- and yes, the game is confirmed to come to the US. The publisher will be NIS America and the release dates are still up in the air at this time. We can't wait!

[Thanks, Jennifer!]

A plethora of Disgaea spinoff screenshots featuring Prinny

Want more Prinny action? There are almost 65 screenshots from Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? over at Game Watch right now, just waiting for you to check them out. Most of the screenshots explain the mechanics of the game: dashing, jumping, throwing, and more. Then there are fancier moves like a hip attack, cutting and finally, the Prinny blast.

This platformer will be headed to Japan at end of November, but a demo will be landing the Japanese PS Store on September 29th. No release info yet for anywhere else in the world. Check the rest of the screenshots of our favorite tormented souls in action here.

Yep, Mana Khemia is making its way to PSP's outside of Japan

Even though it saw release on the PlayStation 2 a few months ago, NIS America has confirmed the rumors that Mana Khemia is making its way onto PSP's in the US. This enhanced port will feature the core game, plus some new multiplayer support options. You can also choose to install portions of the game onto a memory stick to reduce load times. This enhanced port will make its appearance this September.

Infinite Loop: a ghastly new game from Nippon Ichi

Nippon Ichi Software holds a special place in the hearts of hardcore RPG gamers. While most famous for the Disgaea series, their upcoming Infinite Loop looks quite different than their previous titles.

A plague strikes a town during the Middle Ages, taking away the lives of many -- including the King. When the prince tries to find out the real cause behind the plague, his life is also ended. However, his spirit, mysteriously spared, must find out the secret of the disease and the mysterious eye that seems connected to it.

The prince will be able to attach to the living, and through the conversations he listens to, he'll find clues to continue his journey. His time is limited, though -- take too long to find a clue, and his spirit will die. With diligence, players will be able to break out of the "Infinite Loop" and solve the mysteries surrounding this town. It's an intriguing premise, one that'll certainly be heavy in text. Deal of the Night: Disgaea for $30

If you haven't gotten tired of Nippon Ichi Software's staple Disgaea series by now, chances are you haven't played it yet. This must be remedied. amazon.com is having a sale, discounting the game to $30. Of course, getting it used from the Amazon marketplace can save you a couple of bucks, but you won't get the free shipping. However, it appears that this reprint will take about a year to release.
