girl Barbara sent in a tip
that made me absolutely furious. She discovered an article entitled R.I.P. PSP
from the Gameworld Network. It makes the bold assumption that the PSP is on its "last leg" and that now is the time "to lay the PSP to rest." The reasons for its imminent death?
- High development costs - it costs ten times as much to make a PSP game as opposed to a GBA game.
- Lack of hit games - Only three games have become million sellers: GTA, Ridge Racer and Hot Shots Golf.
- Competition from the DS Lite, Wii & PS3 - DS Lite is a huge hit, but the costs of buying a next-gen system will deter people from buying a PSP.
- Long load times and shorter battery life.
- The death of UMD movies.
It's strange, right after people are leaving comments about PSP Fanboy's new optimistic revival
, I put this story up. The arguments are good, especially in light of DS Lite's incredible success
. However, the article's conclusion is a bit (how do I find the appropriate words?) dumb
: "Bottom line: Trade in the PSP while you can still get a decent deal!" My recommendation? Wait until PS1 downloads, Tekken, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Loco Roco, Ace Combat, Every Extend Extra, Vice City Stories, Lumines II, Killzone, Gangs of London, Sonic, Gitaroo Man, Ratchet, and Crisis Core come out. Oh wait, was that too many exclusive games for you?
