THQ to give away Warhammer 40K themed PSPs

It seems THQ read our latest post about its lack of publicizing Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command because it's now actually starting to do its job as a publisher. On its website, THQ is holding a contest to give gamers the chance to win a very limited supply of Warhammer 40K themed PSPs.

You see, this is the kind of thing it probably should have been doing during the weeks leading up to its release, but we have to give them props for at least getting its act together before it's too late. That's something that can't be said for Sega and its horrible job at pushing Crush.

For a chance to win one of these awesome PSPs, copies of the game and t-shirts, you must be a registered myTHQ member and go here to answer a "fiendishly difficult" trivia question about the game.

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command launches, does anyone care?

To be perfectly honest, Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command has flown under the radar around here as evidenced by its exclusion from this week's Worldwide PSP Releases feature despite its Nov. 12 release date. In our defense, though, publisher THQ didn't exactly break the bank in publicizing the game or ensure very many assets made it into the gaming media's hands.

However, Games Workshop did manage to sneak out a short demo that gave a very small taste of what gamers can expect from the game. In spite of its length deficiency, the demo definitely showed the game had promise.

To show our remorse, we present you with the game's launch trailer, which THQ kindly sent out two days after the game's actual release.

Warhammer 40,000 Squad Command downloadable demo

It's been a while hasn't it? Finally, after months of nothing -- we have a new downloadable demo to enjoy. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, here's Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command. This strategy game has some pretty good looks, and will attempt to teach you the very basics on how to play the game.

1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULUS10313 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

New Warhammer 40,000 trailer has pretty cutscenes

Not to be confused with that other Warhammer game, Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command actually seems like it's shaping up to be a decent title; just take a look at those downright awesome-looking cutscenes the game is sporting in its new trailer.

Although the in-game graphics aren't up to par with the game's cutscenes, Squad Command does feature some pretty intense explosions as you'll be able to completely destroy the infrastructure in the levels.

What's more, the trailer confirms the game will support up to eight-player "local and global" multiplayer, which, if done right, could make this turn-based strategy game completely worthy of your purchase when it releases later this year.

Warhammer 40,000 bringing turn-based strategy to PSP

THQ has announced today that a new Warhammer title will be hitting PSPs. In Squad Command, gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and must fight the (obviously) evil Chaos Space Marines. The game promises 13 single-player missions and a "robust multiplayer mode" with 9 unique missions.

Of particular note is the "fully destructible, real time 3D battlefields" the game promises. Theoretically, this means that each battle can be dynamic and different, although we haven't seen the extent of the damage that can be dealt.

There will be over 20 ranged and close combat weapons in the game, taken directly from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist. Expect more details on this new game in the coming months.

Namco Bandai officially announces Warhammer

Namco Bandai officially announces Warhammer for PSPLast month, we reported that Warhammer would be coming to the PSP, but just recently Namco Bandai has officially announced it plans to ship Warhammer: Battle for Atluma, a card-based battle game, this fall.

"One of the more compelling card-based games to date, Warhammer: Battle for Atluma goes beyond simple player interaction and encourages an inclusive sense of community among players through head-to-head battles, card collecting, trading and strategy sessions," said John Whitmore, Director of Internal/External Development at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "This unique dynamic coupled with the strategic, fast-paced nature of the game certainly sets Warhammer: Battle for Atluma apart from other games in its genre."

While the press release didn't offer up any new gameplay information, it did mention the game will be rated "T" for teen, and the title's developer is JV Games, which has most recently developed James Bond 007: Nightfire for the Gameboy Advance.

Warhammer WarCry: Battle for Atluma coming to the PSP

Warhammer WarCry: Battle for Atluma coming to the PSPWhile Namco appears not have struck gold with its most recent title, it may be able to strike it with its newest upcoming game – Warhammer WarCry: Battle for Atluma, which will be the PSP's first card-based battle game.

The game will be based on the Warhammer card game and will give players the option of leading the Grand Alliance or Hordes of Darkness to victory. Allowing players to collect more than 450 cards, 90 different units and the ability to wirelessly connect with a friend to battle it out for each other's cards has me tickled to death with excitement. Warhammer WarCry also allows for the building of custom decks and features an extensive tutorial system for us noobs out there.

I gotta be honest, I'm not too familiar with the Warhammer series; instead I've been more of a Magic: The Gathering kind of guy. But I'm up for any decent card-based battle game on the go, and we won't have too wait long, either, as Warhammer WarCry is set to ship Oct. 17.
