Macross Ace Frontier number one seller in Japan
It's been a while since we've seen a PSP title top the Japanese sales charts. Well, surprise surprise: a PSP anime-licensed game has taken the top spot in Japan. With over 100,000 units pushed in a week, Macross Ace Frontier is an unsurprising victor to this week's charts, edging out a slew of DS and PS2 games, like Pokemon Platinum and Dynasty Warriors 6 Special.

Ha, yeah... Popular in Japan is almost a sure sign, with a few exceptions, that it WON'T come out in the US. It's like they are hoarding all of their IP based games other than things like Naruto or Monster Hunter...

It's actually pretty easy to play if you don't speak a word of Japanese. A lot of the menus are in English (which is....odd...) and I can't recommend importing it enough. It's probably the single greatest game ever made. IMPORT IT.

Actually, I downloaded it after ordering it off of play-asia.
The post takes too long.
But I still paid for it. So I remain atop my high horse.

This was my first imported game in nearly 10 years (the last was Fire Pro G for PSone back in '99, though I received a couple of DC imports as gifts) and oh my God is it fun. Probably nothing to recommend it over another competent mech game play-wise, but it's a Macross fan's wet dream.

There's something about giving your fighter a custom paint job (my veritech is bright, bright pink) while "Holy Lonely Light" plays in the background that sets this game apart.

I'd love to see an American version of this, but I dunno if it'll ever work with the Harmony Gold Robotech license and all...

BTW, Pokemon? Still? C'mon... I mean, I haven't even played a Pokemon game since the GB days and I'm already tired of it.

I know, it totally sucks. That's why people keep buying the games even after a decade.

Yes, I picked this up on the way home from TGS, and I am quite pleased. ^___^ As a new fan of old school Macross, I often feel I missed out on the good stuff. While that's still true, this game makes me so happy.
The people who say you don't need to speak a word of Japanese do not lie, although it would be difficult to understand how to efficiently tune up your mech if you couldn't read a little, I think. The learning curve without being able to read is something like a one story cement wall followed by a gentle, pleasant slopey thing. Just play the first two missions a bunch of times to figure out what your buttons do and how to turn, and then you're up to speed. XD
You also probably miss out on some of the random extra stuff (and do miss out on the story summaries, but it's all stuff a fan would have a good idea of anyway).
Bottom line: very importable, very fun.
